Layah's P.O.V.

I had to fight off my parents' choking hugs after putting my boxes into Kayla's car.

"We're gonna miss you Lay," sniffled mom. "I'm so proud of you baby-" mom elbowed dad in his side. "Oow," dad said annoyed, " WE are so proud of you baby girl." he said rubbing his side.

I smiled as I hugged them. Secretly, I didn't want to let them go, but I had to: to step out into the world as an adult....and because I gotta go to orientation.

"LAYYYYYYYYYY, we've gotta go. Orientation starts in like 40 minutes. Let's gooooooo" Kayla screamed as she closed her car door.

I quickly said goodbye to my parents and ran to the car both excited and scared to start my university life. Kayla screamed, "BYE MR AND MRS KING, DONT WORRY I'LL TAKE GOOD CARE OF HER." and with that we were reversing out of the driveway and off to university.

"ARE YOU EXCITED?!? OH MY GOD I'M EXCITED!!" screamed Kayla.

"Kayla why the hell are you screaming? Why didn't you text me back last night?" I said as I playfully hit her. She smirked, "Remember that guy I was telling you about? you know, from the summer?"

"Tye? Tyme? or something?" I asked, not really following.

"No, ew, what? no the other, the guy Trey" she beamed, "He's on the basketball team here at Xavier university. He's a junior and girl he is fiiiiinnnnneeee." she squeaked.

"How did yall meet again?" I giggled.

"He was at my cheerleading practice, chillin' with friends, but he is sooo fine. I couldn't stop staring at him and he was staring at me. Soooooooo, I gave him number, and that's.....where I was last night" she winked.

I giggled to myself because my mom was right, we gotta pray for Kayla.

The drive wasn't that long. It was like a 15-20 minute drive. I stuck my head out of the window: admiring the campus and the gleaming life that seemed fast-paced. I smiled to myself. "I think I can do this." I whispered to myself.

"Girl who are you talking to? That's it. We need to find you a man ASAP!" she said as she pulled into the enormous parking lot that was filled with freshmen carrying their belongings.

I stepped out of the car and took a deep breath. I exhaled deeply. This is it. Kayla grabbed my hand and said, "There! there is the table area calling out last names." Kayla was right. There was a table with persons sitting behind it calling out last names in alphabetical order. "Johnson?!, Bridgette Johnson?! Jones, McKayla Jones?!." Kayla began to leave and I squeezed her arm, not wanting her to leave me alone.

"I'll be right back, I'm just gonna get my dorm key, relax Lay." I released my grip and just like that, I was all alone. Suddenly, my phone goes off, 'ALL FRESHMAN TEAM MEMBERS MEET IN THE GYM @2:30 PM'. "Finally, let's get this show on the road", I mumbled to myself.

"Girl you still talking to yourself again? Damn sis, you need some help." she says jokingly. "I'm in the athletic building across the street, building 12 room G." she continued, "Girllll we gonna be lit ALLLL night to-" suddenly Kayla was cut off.

"King?!, Layah King?!" I looked at Kayla. I shrugged and slowly walked through the crowd saying to myself "Here goes nothing."
