Kyrie's P.O.V.

I sat on the bench, drenched in my own sweat. I was working on some lay-ups because my skill has been weak lately.

'Probably because my life is a mess now.' I thought to myself. Seeing that nigga at my parents' party really got me messed up. I haven't been sleeping properly and I really don't talk to anyone like that anymore. I'm trying my hardest not to push anyone away, especially Layah. She's amazing and I love her. I don't want things to get messy between us.

I've noticed that Trey has been moping around lately. He's not the same since he and Kayla broke up. They both aren't doing well. Obviously, anyone can see that.

Just as I was about to continue my drills, the gym door opened and D'Jay came in. I ignored him and continued making shots. He came on the court and caught the ball that I had thrown up.

He chuckled and shook his head. "What's so funny?" I asked.

"You nigga, you're funny." he said, irritating me.

"LOOK, I don't have time for your shit. What the hell do you want?!" I shouted.

"It don't always have to be about Kai!" he screamed, getting angry. I smirked. I must've struck a nerve.

I continued making shots. He just stood there clenching his jaw. He caught the ball mid air and launched it across the gym.

"YOU'VE BEEN SO BUSY JACKING YOURSELF, YOU DIDN'T EVEN REALIZE THAT TREY ALMOST KILLED HIMSELF!" he screamed, causing fear and confusion to push through my anger.

"What are you talking about?" I asked. I approached him. He went quiet and hung his head. "D'Jay! What are you talking about?! What happened!?" I asked, now gripping his shirt. He didn't try to defend himself, instead, his eyes started to water.

In all my years of being this asshole's friend, he cried once and that was at his mother's funeral.

"The other night, when it was pouring.." he start slowly, his voice cracking. "I followed him to the harbor where Trevor died" My throat tightened at the mention of Trey's brother. "He was drinking, crying, screaming. He....He was a mess." he said with tears streaming down his face.

Now my eyes started to water, damn it Trey.

"When he staggered to the edge of the dock, that's when I hurried and pulled him back." he said, causing my tears to fall completely. "He was saying that Trevor was calling him, and that he deserved to die." D'Jay was completely sobbing and now, so was I.

'I'm such a pussy.' I thought to myself. I pulled him into a hug.

"Y'all are my family. Y'all took care of me when my mom left." he said. "Seeing Trey like that really put things into perspective for me." he said as he broke the embrace and wiped his face. "I'm sorry for going behind your back with Isabella. Yes, it was wrong of me to go after your sister. But I promise, I didn't have any bad intentions for her. I love her, I still do, I'll do anything for her." he said, looking me in the eyes. I can see and tell that he really means what he said.

I clenched my jaw, and decided to not say anything. He sighed and moved away from me and was making his way to the exit. Before he got any further I said, "Hey, you're my family too aight?" meaning every word. "If you ever break my sister's heart, I will kick your ass." I said, causing us both to smile.

"See ya home,..later?" he asked, "Maybe we could hang or something...you know, figure out how to get Trey back." he sincerely, said.

"Definitely." I said.

"By the way, your lay up sucks." he said running towards the rim and landing a smooth lay up. That was something I've been trying to do since I got here. I only rolled my eyes. "Show off." I said, "Look man I'm sorry too, I've just been acting like a lil bitch because she is my sister. I didn't mean for it to get this bad. We need to focus on Trey." I said softly.
