Valarie took off her heels as Jace Adz came running towards her.
"Are you alright?" He asked grabbing some napkins. She paused and looked around. Mostly everyone was staring at her and she felt her eyes filling with tears."What are you all looking at?" She asked trying to keep her tears from falling. "Stop staring at me." Valarie said looking at the several cameras suddenly in her face.
She was pretty sure they got her falling or making a scene with Damian Wayne."Stop it!" She shouted as a flash of light hit her in the face. And soon, that one camera wasn't the only thing taking pictures. It wasn't just the few that were looking at her now, it was everyone.
Jace saw how annoyed and frustrated she was getting. He heard her voice crack and the tears started to run down her face.
She pushed passed Jace and ran up the stairs to her room. Casper was already in there laying on her bed and looked up once she entered. She slammed the door and locked it. Valarie didn't hold back anymore of her tears and just let it out. Her feet moved towards the bathroom and she stood over the sink.
"They asked to much of me." she cried looking at the photo of her sisters on her mini shelf.
"I can't do it, its all to much."
Valarie banged her fist on the sink and covered her face with the plan of her hands.Damian Wayne was right. They were fools. The media was right, I can't do this. Why did they trust me?
********
Valarie found her old drug box that she put in her trunk. It from her past self, the naive and wild Valarie. The 14 year old Valarie who went out and partied all night. Came home late or not at all. The Valarie that drank until she couldn't walk, who OD a few times. Valarie Ellington that no one was proud of, but ashamed.
That girl ceased to exist anymore. She was clean now, her drug addiction was gone. She vowed to never take a sip of alcohol until she was 21. Even then she would take tiny amounts, or none at all. That is, until now.
She filled the tub with hot water and waited for it to fill up.
"One hit." Said Valarie. "One sniff."Everything in her way saying not to do it, telling her not to go back down that road. But what bugged her the most was her inner self asking why? Why do you have it? Why did you keep it? Why didn't you get rid of it?
So many questions and so many reasons why she couldn't get rid of her drug box. Why she kept it.
"Today's a rainy day." Valarie mumbled turning off the water to the now full tub.
She stripped down and got in. She grabbed her mini plate of crushed drugs and held it to her nose.
Inhale!
And with a small sniff, the drugs entered her body. She let out a breath and a small laugh escaped her throat.
Then everything became clear to her. Why she kept her drug box and why just one sniff felt so good.Valarie out her plate down and lit a cigarette. Breathing in the poison that kills you slowly. She wasn't worried about anything in that moment all she cared about was the weight of the world of her shoulders. The weight of expectations that everyone expects from her. The fact that the press was right, the board, the pubic...that Damian was right. No one thought she could do this.
"I'm done trying." She says taking in another breath of the devils grass.
With another puff, Valarie began to sink herself into the tub.
She was done trying to show people that the Ellington legacy her family left for her, was the right choice. That their daughter could take over the family business. She had the brains and the power to do so.
To bad no one gave her the chance.
