"I'm sorry...I'm sorry." Valarie kept repeating. Her head against the wall and her body wrapped up by her arms.
"Alguém pode me ouvir? Alguém está ouvindo?" (Can anybody hear me? Is anyone listening?)
Valarie whispers in Portuguese. Her body finally letting out all those bottled up feelings. Maybe it was just the alcohol, the fact that she drank a whole bottle of vodka by herself  along with two bottles of Henny because she missed her family.
Her words were jumbled together and the word spilling from her lips were just wails of pain.
"How could you leave me here? Why did you leave me here? eu te odeio, I hate you."

Damian watched from the side as Valarie cried. Her head lifted and she looked up Damian. Those eyes staring into his green ones. It convicted him a bit because she was really hurting.

"Why are you here?" She asked with a bit of a slur. Valarie's voice labored and broken up as she said, "Why haven't you left me yet?"

"You need help. A friend of mine is going to he here soon. She's going to help you." Damian replied, adjusting himself and continued leaning  against the wall.

"What happens then? What happens when she gets here? Wait, I already know. You'll leave me. Você vai me deixar."

He didn't answer but sighed. Wondering why she so worried about him leaving? Why it was on her mind? But there was this other question in the back of his head.

Damian POV

Why am I feeling sympathy?

"Get out. Leave me alone." She ordered with a glare. The fact that she had just puked didn't bother her nor me.
"Who left first?" I ask as she leans her head against the wall. "Why are you so afraid of that?"

"Meu pai era o primeiro a ir. Ele partiu antes que o acidente acontecesse." (My father was first to go. He left before the crash happened)

She muttered in Portuguese. I understood what she was saying but not what she meant. I wanted to ask but it didn't feel right. Not right now.

It was strange. I've never seen someone this drunk. Her face and eyes were red and puffy and Valarie kept muttering. The salty drips of tears coming down here cheek. It wasn't like it was before where Valarie was balling, it was a silent cry. The sound of her banging her head against the wall made me question everything I thought I knew.

She wasn't just a woman who lost her parents. Valarie lost everything and was being expected to do everything her family did. What they worked for. The sympathy I once had for her...its now pity.

I heard the sound of clicking heels. I knew it was Jacklyn. She always had this weird beat when she walked in heels.

"Damian...what the hell happened?" I hear her voice say.
"Upstairs." I say back. She was carrying a bag of food and a box. "What's all that?" I asked as she made her way up the steps.

"The box is for you. New pair of shoes." She replied, then throwing it at me. Jacklyn immediately stopped once she saw the drunk Valarie.
"I can't believe I said I'd help." she mumbles which makes me roll sigh in annoyance and say,

"You can leave if you want. I'll figure this out on my own."
"Trust me." She scoffs, looking around the corner. "You wouldn't know the first thing to do."
"Is all of this necessary?" I asked, helping her pull out some items.

I saw whip cream, bagels, cream cheese, water bottle, Pepsi can, Oreo and a bag of salt and vinegar chips.

"Not all of it is for her?" Jacklyn replies grabbing a paper towel while I started changing my shoes. "I'll get her a change of clothes and you go find a blanket." She ordered me,then opening a bag of salt and vinegar chips.

Nodding my head I head up the stairs and she does too. Valarie lays on the ground face up with tears staining her cheeks. I saw Jacklyn give her the same look I did. I could tell she was trying not to. Clearing her throat we parted ways to get what we needed and Jacklyn asked me to help her pick up Valarie.

"Stay in there with her. Her body is a bit cold from all the alcohol." Jacklyn says softly. "Make sure she stays on her side while I make some tea. It'll sober her up in 4 hours. 8 tops. "

"Now I'm on babysitting duty?" I asked with a bit of sarcasm.
"You have nothing better to do." She states as we place Valarie onto her bed. The cat sprung from underneath the bed letting a slight meow leave its mouth.

Jacklyn covered her up with the blankets and Valarie layed there with a blank expression. It was a sad one once I looked harder.
"Make sure she's warm." Jacklyn says, "And don't pity her Damian. She's been through a lot this past year." then leaving me and the drunk woman alone with the sound of the door closing behind her.

"Why are you still here?" Valarie asked, in a whisper so low that if she spoke any louder it would shake the earth. "Why can't you just got away?"

"You're drunk. And I'm not left with much choice." I replied, folding my arms and looking elsewhere around the room.

"The woman who died today at Beverly's...her name was Shelly Michaels." she began, clutching the blanket close to. "That's the reason my father left. He and Shelly were having an affair. I caught them in his office and I remember him saying, 'Cinderella, don't tell your mother. She won't be hurting  you but me.' When he told me that he wasn't himself. " she says, whispering the last part. Her voice cracking and she sniffles. "He gave me a look of fear and it was so deep that it scared me. I didn't dare say a word because my mother...she was the definition of hell on fire. Deus me perdoe (god forgive me)." Valarie said, then closing her eyes as tears fell in puddles onto the blanket.
