Chapter 7

Valarie POV

"Damian." I say as we are walking through the halls.

He looks at me with his hands in his pocket. "Do you want to know a secret?"

He cocked his head to the side and shook his head with a small grin on his face. "I..I don't know. If you want to tell me then you can."

"I haven't been in my parent's office since the day they died."I sigh. "The door has remained shut and...I could never bring myself to go in there."

"Why not?" he asks.

"Going in their office and sitting behind that desk pretending to know what I'm doing...it's not something I want to fake. I'm...I'm not worthy to sit in that leather chair."

"Woman," he mumbles. "You're in charge. The press and the board can say anything they want about you but it's up to you to listen to them or not. Use that passion I see inside of you and don't let go of it. You are just as worthy as any of your other siblings to sit behind that desk."

"You make it sound so easy." I say, brushing a strand of hair behind my ear. Damian stops moving and when I turn back I see his face is hard with his arms crossed.

"I told you last night that you are afraid of the truth. This is one of them. You're afraid to admit to yourself that you are worthy." I gulp as he moves closer to me. My hands hold on tight to my purse and he lifts my chin up so I'm staring directly into his gorgeous green eyes. "Lift that chin up and walk through that door." He says sternly pointing to the office up ahead. "You wanted today to be about facing fears correct?"

I nod.

Something changed about him. The Damian that is standing before me right now isn't the man I met that night. He's different and I...I like it.
