In which Simon and josh adopt a child
Simons pov
The paperwork and tiresome days past.
It had taken us a year to get the authority and rights to adopt a child. Months of inspecting us as fit parents and in a welcoming home.
Finally, after a year, me and josh would be able to hold our very first child.
We had no one to be our surrogate, so we were forced to adopt.
"Baby, adopting does not mean we will love them any less or that they will be any less our child." Josh's reassuring words bounced against my head as we walked into the adoption home. My heart shook as I gripped onto the carrier for our child, my knuckles sure to be white.
We stood against a wall, waiting for them to call our name. We did not talk, fearing if we do something bad may happen.
As we stood there, I thought over everything we were told about our new child.
It was a girl, left at the home when she was nothing older than one. She has been at the home for half a year before we came along. She was almost two years old. She had brown curls, crystal blue eyes, as if she was a mix of me and josh without having any blood relation. Her name, Alena Grey, soon to be Alena Grey Minter.
"Simon Minter, Josh Bradley. We are ready for you."
The world seemed to stop as our names were called out into the silent room. Josh took my hand in his, lacing our fingers together as he gave me a reassuring nod. We walked into the room in front of us, and it was as if our whole world shifted as we took our first step into parenthood.
There she was, in the arms of an other woman. She was sitting up, her shining eyes full of hope and her facing smeared with innocence.my heart clenched as I looked at my daughter.
"Look, it's your daddies. They are going to be taking you home." The woman spoke to the child in a sweet voice, smooth as honey as she held the child in her arms. Josh let go of my hand, going forward to take Alena. She let out a tiny sputter of laughter, a smile shining on her face as josh held her. Dimples creased into her smooth skin as she put one hand on joshes lips. I could hear josh's breathing become short breaths, and I knew the moment was overwhelming him with emotions.
"She seems to like you, that's a good thing." I smiled at the woman as she spoke, glancing over periodically to Josh and Alena, watching as they played peek a boo.
I signed any last papers before it came to the big moment, the moment in which I strapped Alena into her carrier and we stepped across the line in which we came in a couple, and left as parents.
I decided to sit in the back with her, to make sure she was okay during the whole ride home.
From here on out, I'd dedicate my life to the little girl that was now Josh and I's child.
