Allie's POV
The last couple of weeks had been filled with nothing but avoidance. Even though we were on the same bus when we were on the road, Brantley avoided me as much as I avoided him. In the few days off time, he headed back to Georgia and I hopped a flight to Nashville. I could breathe again while I was gone, even though my heart panged a little every time PJ dropped me off at the closest airport. Whichever one of us got up first in the mornings was usually the first one off the bus.
I'd take my laptop up to some of the highest parts of the venues, slip in my ear buds, and go through shots from the night before until someone called or came looking for me. Brantley would either take off on his bike before soundcheck or be busy with interviews. At night after the shows, if they were writing, I would take a couple pictures then retreat up front to hang out with Tony while he drove. I had woken up a couple of times to Ben or Jesse putting me on the couch before they headed to their bus at a stop. Guess I had fallen asleep editing. We pulled into Augusta, GA early this morning and I had gotten up early to spend the day with my aunt.
I had moved to Jefferson after I graduated high school to live with her while I went to UGA. With Dad's job and his travel, we decided it was the best move for me. Aunt Liz had stepped in to be a mother figured after Mama had passed away. I had been read the riot act when I told her about the job I had accepted. I reminded her all day as she gave me a look that I was fine, and I could handle this.
Since we were here a day ahead of time, she had come down to hang out for the day. I had gotten a text from Ben earlier that they had decided to have party around the buses. I had promised him I would come for a little bit then I wanted to crash pretty early. I gave Aunt Liz a hug before she climbed back in her Jeep to head home. I smelled the grills going and could hear music and laughter as I walked closer to the buses.
I ducked onto Brantley's bus to put my bags up before grabbing a camera that I had left charging and headed back out. I walked under the big white tent with chairs and tables scattered around smiling. I saw Ben standing by what appeared to be a karaoke machine and rolled my eyes. Well, this should be fun.
My steps faltered as I walked over to the table loaded with food. Brantley was leaned against the side grinning as a trampy looking blonde ran her hand up and down his arm. She had on a skin tight pair of jeans, hooker boots, and a tank top that said Bottoms Up on it cut to show off her obviously fake cleavage.
Ugh, gag me. Geez B, let your standards slip much. Arrgghh! Can't get jealous Allie, you can't get jealous. He lifted his head glancing my direction making my eyes widened that I had been caught looking. Shit, I broke his gaze as he smirked at me and spun around to find something to drink. I was bent over digging a beer out of one of the Yeti coolers when I heard an all too familiar voice call out. Fuck!
"Son, you gonna flirt all day or you going to give your Mama a hug," Mama Becky said. I could almost see her hands on her hips and I wasn't even turned around looking. I still would go see her every couple of months when I would come in to see Aunt Liz. I always made sure Brantley was out of town when I did though. My dear sweet ex-brother in law kept me informed on that. Kolby and I still talked once a week, however Brantley had no idea about it.
She knew I was out on this tour, but I hoped Mama Becky wouldn't be looking for me tonight. I didn't need the we are a pair of idiots speech while he and I were in the same room. I slowly made my way around the table, beer in hand trying to make it over to hide behind Ben when I was spotted.
"Why there's my favorite daughter in law!" Mama Becky called out making me stop, turn around, and paste a smile on my face. She waved a hand at me as Brantley sat her back on her feet after giving her a big hug. I really was happy to see her. I just didn't want to have to see her with Brantley around. "Come give me a hug honey. It's been months."
