Brantley's POV
I listened to the last few details Mike had for me for the night. We had a few days off before needing to be in Nashville to rehearse for that concert. I nodded my head to what he was saying. I glanced around the room and couldn't help but chuckle at Allie curled up on the couch in the corner asleep under one of my leather jackets her feet in Ben's lap as he played on his phone. Damn woman could always find a place to sleep if she was tired. Eric was leaned against the wall reading emails I was willing to bet. I knew he was heading to the airport as soon as we pulled out.
Allie didn't know it, but I had planned to get her away for a few days. We had talked about heading on into Nashville, so she could get some work done before I had rehearsals. But last night I had gotten to thinking. I knew her, and as soon as either of us made a move, she would be in her head. She had already balked last week when I brought up coming home. Told me she wasn't ready to go to the house just yet and left it at that. I wasn't wild about her place in Nashville because of her relationship with Jake.
Neutral ground seemed like the best idea and the damn bus was not it. So a cabin near a lake, in the middle of the woods it was. I grinned even wider thinking about the hot tub out of the deck. I had sweet talked PJ into going out there earlier since it was about an hour away from the venue and stocking things up. I owed Allie more getaways like this than she knew. I used to would have the idea and then something would come up before I could act on it. I could have put my foot down a long time ago and made it happen, just never did.
"Alright BG," Mike said with a grin when he saw where I was looking. "I think that's it. I'll see you Wednesday morning in Nashville. Swear I won't call unless something major comes up."
"Thanks," I said with a chuckle. "And again thank you for telling me about the place."
"No worries," Mike said with a shrug. "Y'all need it. Really glad to see y'all getting things worked out."
"Me too," I said as PJ walked up laying a hand on my shoulder. He handed me my keys with a smile.
"There you go Boss," he said. "Took care of what you asked. Grabbed the bags you had set aside on the bus and loaded them up in the truck."
"Thanks PJ," I said smiling. I gave them both a nod then strode across the room to Allie. Eric had his back turned away from her as I approached, and I couldn't help but snicker at his side of the conversation as I walked up.
"I don't fucking care what it takes," he growled pinching the bridge of his nose in frustration. "Get it fixed and get the son of a bitch off of downtime. Do I need to fucking fly up to North Dakota and show you pussy asses how it's done? Don't tell me I can't say that Jennifer! Yes, I am well aware that you are on this call as HR rep to keep my temper in check." He heaved out a sigh then turned to look at me. "Look let me tell my daughter bye and then I am headed to the airport and back to Houston. Unless I need to go show that wormy OPS manager how to handle his business."
Eric disconnected the call before sliding his hand in his pocket. I saw the red flush of his temper fading slightly.
"You need a vacation old man," I said with a laugh. "Bad."
"Maybe I do," Eric grumbled narrowing his eyes at me. "Don't fucking call me old. I can still whip your ass son. Y'all about to head out?"
"Yea," I said looking over at Allie still asleep. "I figured she'll sleep the whole way."
"She said she tossed and turned most of the night last night," he said with a concerned look on his face. PJ cracked up laughing as I gave him a funny look.
"I told you last night Eric," he said as he grinned. "She gave up her favorite pillow."
"Fuck off PJ. I don't need a reminder." Eric huffed. He paused fixing up both with a look. "Take care of my little girl for me?"
