Brantley's POV

I threw my head back laughing at the story Allie was telling me across the table as she gave me a grin before taking a bite out of the fry in her hand. My jaw had dropped when she'd answered the door to her apartment earlier taking my breath away with just how simply beautiful she was. Her tan legs showing in a pair of cut off shorts that were driving me crazy. I'd had to remind myself several times to keep myself in check. She had her shoulder length auburn hair pulled off her face giving me a better view of her beautiful blue eyes. We had talked a while last night before her roommate had been ready to leave. I had called her as soon as I had gotten up today to confirm she was still going to let me take her out tonight.

"So Miss Allie," I said with a grin leaning forward a little looking at her across the table. Her eyes had lit up when I had pulled up to one of my favorite burger joints in Athens. Apparently, it was hers too. "What are you majoring in? Never got around to asking you last night."

"Oh, we were having too much fun people watching," she said with a giggle before taking a sip of her Coke. "But to answer your question, photography."

"Hmm," I said with a wink. "If I ever let you take my picture, promise to get my good side?"

"You have one?" she asked with a twinkle in her eye then gasped when I tossed a fry at her nailing her in the forehead. "That's not very nice."

"Never claimed to be darlin," I replied with a smirk kicking her foot lightly under the table. "So headed back home for the summer tomorrow?"

"I am," Allie said nodding her head. Damn, wish I had met her sooner.

"Bet there is some poor old boy that is gonna be glad to see you," I said smiling. "Probably broke his heart when you left coming here for college."

"Hardly," Allie said with a snort rolling her eyes. "Last guy I dated was a few months back and he turned out to be an idiot. What about you?"

"There was someone," I muttered shrugging my shoulders. "But she left going to school among other things."

"I'm sorry," Allie said softly reaching a hand across the table to lay on the top of mine. My heart skipped a beat at the contact.

"Don't be," I said shaking my head and turning my hand over to grasp hers. "I wouldn't be sitting here talking to you if not."

"Very true," she said as a faint blush spread across her cheeks.

I lost track of how long we had been sitting there talking until I noticed the crowd had thinned out and the parking lot was deserted. I'd already mentioned leaving earlier and Allie had waved me off with a grin before flagging down a waitress to order a milkshake. Hmm... seemed the damn girl had a sweet tooth to rival my own. I'd told her about singing some and song writing. Her eyes had widened when I told her we had played before she had gotten there last night. I gave her a wink telling her she'd have to come see a show when she got back. Later as I walked Allie to her apartment door, I tried to tamp down the disappointment of the night ending. But I was sure she had a long drive ahead of her tomorrow and after a rough week of finals, needed to rest. Stuffing my hands in my pockets I looked down at her. I wanted nothing more right then than to keep her out all night. Hell just to talk to her.

"Well I guess this is it," I said as she bit her lip looking up at me nodding.

"Yea," she sighed then gave me a soft smile. "Thank you for tonight. I really had fun."

"Me too," I said leaning my shoulder against the door watching as she fished her keys out of her purse. "I really would like to see you again when you get back."
