Allie's POV
I sat on the couch with my knees drawn up propping my chin on them looking out the window at the Nashville sky line. I tried to not think about the argument we'd had early this morning after the bus rolled out headed back to Nashville. What killed me was that was not how I'd wanted things to go last night, but when Brantley had looked at me walking back to the bus and mentioned going home after tonight, I'd dug my heels in. We'd had this conversation before and it never ended well at all. I wasn't ready for that. I knew I was overdue in going to see Aunt Liz, and Mama Becky as well. I'd tried to say I would stay with one of them but had that sent Brantley into a ten minute rant that I slept in his arms every night on tour then why the fuck couldn't I in the house we'd planned out together.
That had resulted in me yelling back at him. PJ had walked in a few minutes later to see if we were ready to go finding us facing off glaring at each other. I'd taken advantage of the distraction to duck away and head to the back changing into my pajamas and curling up with my back to the door. We were doing so well at getting to know each other again. It was amazing what were still habits we each still had that the other picked up on. Man was still lost as a goose sometimes when it came to finding his wallet, keys, and phone. I was forever misplacing a piece of camera equipment that he could always find. In some ways it was like we'd never lost the groove of being married, even though we weren't anymore.
Later after the bus had been on the road a while, I felt the bed dip and a pair of arms slip around me and I'd wanted to cry. He was trying so damn hard and I couldn't let go of some of my hang ups. I had calmly explained to him after I apologized that I wasn't ready for that just yet. I couldn't look past the memory of me walking out of the house yet and leaving. Brantley had nodded his head in understanding before reminding me that if this was gonna work, I couldn't avoid home forever. He'd firmly reminded me that it was still just as much my home as it was his.
I closed my eyes as I heard footsteps approaching from the back and felt the couch shift a second later as a pair of arms wrapped around me pulling me back into his chest. I settled my hands on top of his with a quiet sigh. Brantley buried his face in my neck.
"Please?" I heard asked softly. I knew in that moment, with that one quiet plea, I was going to give in. He was right. I'd never get over the past if I didn't take the time to make new memories.
"Okay," I said turning my head to look at him as a wide grin spread across his face.
"Really?" he asked trying to read my look to make sure I was serious.
"Yes," I said shrugging my shoulders deciding to play off my nerves with being funny. "Need to go and see just how bad you messed up my decorating since I left."
"Oh you know those ugly ass vases you just had to have for the living room was the first things to go," he said with a snort standing up pulling me to my feet. Brantley ducked as I went to swing at him. "Allie seriously. You know it would happen. I raised tee total hell over those."
"I know you did," I said with a grin as he pulled me off the bus. I knew he had a quick interview before VIP. "Why do you think I kept insisting we needed them." I yelped at the hard smack on my ass as he growled shaking his head.
"So you bought them just to aggravate me?" he asked in disbelief.
"Damn right," I said with a sassy wink.
"Good," Brantley grumbled. "Then I don't feel bad for letting Cam use them for target practice.
"You didn't?" I asked with a fake gasp. Knowing damn good and well he did.
