When I told her that I didn't know who she was she backed off of me for a minute. She thought I a joking but when she saw the expression on my face again, she knew I wasn't lying. She started tearing up again but I had to tell her the truth, no matter how much it hurt. She was so shaken up she couldn't even speak properly.
"You... you don't... remember? How could you?" She cried. She then angrily and tearfully ran through the tent entrance out into the forest and I scrambled after her.
"Wait where are you going?" I asked as I ran up to her. However I was stopped short as she was holding her blade at my throat.
"Don't follow me. Just leave." She said.
Then, with a snap of her fingers, she became cloaked in electricity and had dashed away, just like lightning.
I was so disappointed in myself that only one thing escaped my lips.
                              "Light."
Not knowing what else to do, I sat and cried for a bit. Knowing that I was now the reason that she was broken. I even started to question if what I had done was also the right thing to do. After I took a few minutes to cry, I pulled myself together. I decided that I should go look for her as these woods could be dangerous when you were traveling them alone. I knew she could more than hold her own. That wasn't what I was afraid of. I was afraid that she might destroy herself because of her grief.
I couldn't track her as she had dashed through the air with her abilities. So I just followed in the direction that I had seen her dash in minutes ago. Hoping that I'd find her before something would happen to her.
She hadn't gone very far. She only went about a few yards into the woods to where she had gone off to. She was slaying nearby monsters and she moved gracefully but swift and with strength. If I even approached her, she might've accidentally cut me to ribbons so I waited until she was finished. After she was done, she fell backwards onto her knees and just sat there, in complete and total silence. I walked up to her slowly.
I could see that her chest was heaving from her heavy breathing but she was still almost as quiet as the trees surrounding us. Her face was stained with tears and wrought with an expression of pain, confusion and despair. When I saw her eyes, there was no shine in them anymore. Just blank empty irises.
She looked up at me and regained her composure as she stood back up and sheathed her weapon. Shortly after she gave me a look of dissatisfaction.
"I made a promise to help you reach your objective. So I'll follow you until then but only until then." She said. I nodded my head in agreement to show that I understood. She then proceeded to walk right past me as if I wasn't even there and she headed back in the direction of our camp.
The next two days were going to be terrible. I could just feel it. Because now, if she didn't hate or dislike me before, I feel that she definitely does now. But I don't blame her. I didn't know the lengths of what she had one through just to reach me. Only for her to discover that I didn't even know she existed until a few days ago. To her it must've been like crushing the one thing she lived for. I just hope that one day she can find it in herself to forgive me. For now all we could do was travel.
