Everyone stood motionless in silence watching Sam disappear behind the trees and it took me a minute to realize my sister-in-law was screaming and pushing me.
"You self-absorbing asshole," she was saying, "Not only have you chased away my best friend in the whole entire world, but you did it on the anniversary of her children's death!" Mady was furious. Her face turned shades of deeper red, eyes began to turn the ice blue colour of her wolf. "And now we will probably never see her again!" Mady lunged at us, myself and Nickoli. Nate grabbed her before she was able to make contact and dragged the flaring screaming Mady away.
Losing this woman was not going to happen. Ready to take off after her. Mady must have read my mind and screamed, "Don't you dare go after her. Not until you two come to an agreement that won't hurt her anymore then you are ready have!"
That stopped us both in our tracks, Nickoli coming to the same conclusion on going after Sam. We stood there staring at each other, all hostilely gone, and waited for the other to speak first.
After a long silence, I spoke up keeping my voice even, "Either we both lose or we both win."
"Are you saying what I think you are?" Nickoli said with the same blandness.
I gave a curt nod, "Unless you want to step aside and let her go? Then yeah, I'm saying we both date Sam. If she will still have us. Then we let her decide." This was not the way of the wolf, but Sam meant more to me than life itself and I would do anything to keep her.
Coming to an agreement, we were just about to take off running to stop Sam from leaving, and hopefully be able to convince her to take us back, but Mason and Matt, in their animal form, charged out from the trees and headed right for us. Teeth bared and growling in a clear challenge. Both myself and Nickoli stood there stunned at the behaviour coming from the lesser wolf and lion.
Attempting to step to the side to pass them, we were stopped when the wolf and lion crotched down, hind legs tense ready to attack. "Back off Mason. We need to stop Sam," I growled.
That set them off even more. Matt roared while Mason started to bark their warning for us to stay where they were. I have had enough, "Will you two fucks change back and tell me what the hell is your problem?" We could not really communicate this way, only with gestures and Mason was clearly pissed.
Mason changed back first and once he was done Matt followed suit. You never changed at the same time in a hostile situation, always keeping someone to cover your back in mid change. It surprised me that they have already bonded so quickly. I knew they have been hanging out, but what they just did was done with a pack brother and they were not pack.
Mason's anger hit me like a tidal wave, "Stay the fuck away from her," his voice gravelly as like his wolf, "You have done enough damage."
I met Mason's challenging stare, if there was more time I would put Mason back in his place. It didn't matter how close he was to Sam, she was mine, and Mason needed to step down. "Mason, know your place," I pushed my power out, aiming it toward Mason staggering him back a step. Nickoli doing the same with his pride brother before we took off after Sam without another word to my pack brother.
