August 27th

Taylor's P.O.V

I pulled my dress down self consciously. I really hated wearing dresses. And having to go to events like this for work. I was back in L.A. and at some godawful music events party. I willingly involved myself in this stupid media circus. But a band I was covering were doing an exclusive press release and I was here to cover it. Thankfully that part was already over. I was already on my 4th glass of champagne.

I heard a wolf whistle behind me but didn't turn round. It obviously wouldn't be for me. It happened again and then arms wrapped around my waist.

"Rude Jenning's. Rude."

Ocean scented warmth. I grinned and spun around as Tom crushed me against him.

"What are you doing here?" Asked Tom as he pulled back in surprise.

I pulled my lanyard that I'd tucked inside my dress out.

"Taylor Jenning's feature writer for  Spin magazine. Could I trouble you for an interview Mr DeLonge?" I teased.

Tom laughed.

"Sick man. So are you covering a band?"

I nodded.

"Yeah but they finished up already. What are you doing here? Are you alone?" I asked with a frown.

Tom shook his head and bit his lip.

"Promoting. Ummm no. Jen, Mark, Travis...and Skye are at the bar."

My stomach knotted. Skye...oh.

"Oh cool." I replied lamely.

Tom put his hands on my shoulders.

"Hey if you wanna hightail it out of here I totally get it. She's just terrible and...it won't be easy to watch them together."

I shrugged. I had to try and get past this.

"We're all adults here...sort of. It'll be weird but I'm ok."

Tom nodded and squeezed my hand which I was very grateful for in that moment as Mark and a very pregnant Skye walked over to us. Oh God. I couldn't do this. She was blonde and beautiful and very pregnant with Mark's baby. Just physically seeing her with my own eyes made everything incredibly real and painful. Be cool. Be cool. I watched Mark's eyes widen.

"Hi."

I smiled. He was so adorable. He'd shaved and he was wearing a suit. He looked great. Really great.

"Hey."

"What are you doing here?" He asked still completely dumbfounded.

I swung my lanyard like a pendulum.

"Working. You're looking at Spin magazine's best feature writer I'll have you know." I teased.

Mark smiled.

"I know. I'm a subscriber." He teased back.

I felt my heart beat faster in my chest. He read my articles.

Skye's eyes were flicking between us.

"Oh right. Skye this is Taylor Jenning's."

She smiled tightly. Oh she knew who I was alright. And she hated my guts.

"Pleasure to finally meet you." She  said as she held her hand out to me.

I shook it and she gripped my fingers just a touch too tightly.
