BTS' female member Chaelin addresses plastic surgery rumours!

Fans of the Co-ed group BTS were left confused after Kim Chaelin had mysteriously not taken part in the last promotions for BTS' comeback with "The Most Beautiful Moment in Life Pt.1". When she did come back for promotions for "The Most Beautiful Moment in Life Pt.2", BTS fans noticed something different about the maknae's appearance and had quickly started to question as to whether or not the young singer had gotten plastic surgery. "It would be unlikely," some fans stated on twitter, "no one in Bangtan has gotten plastic surgery." Others thought that, even though the rest of BTS (including her brother Jin) had not gotten under the knife, the singer might have done so regardless. In a recent interview Chaelin was asked this question and she answered with a simple "Yes, I have gotten plastic surgery."

Fans of the band were shocked and a lot of Netizen took to SNS to criticise the young women's decision. "She should be a role model for younger generations. She is only eighteen!" ARMY's however had quickly protected the female member of BTS stating that "it was her decision and it's our obligation to respect it. So many female idols get plastic surgery-Stop bashing on the one girl who admits it."

Hours after the interview had been broadcast, Chaelin wrote on the BTS Fancafe that she was suffering from BDD (Body Dysmorphic Disorder)-A mental health issue where one sees endless flaws in their own appearance. Patients often resort to plastic surgery. She also stated that she was feeling a lot more confident now and was asking everyone to respect her decision.

Chaelin was the only one out of BTS who had gotten plastic surgery. She had always been very insecure, later on it was identified as BDD and she had resorted to plastic surgery in order to change all the flaws she saw in her image. She had gotten a rhinoplasty and a breast augmentation. Though none of the boys or her management were very happy or supportive of her decision, they did let her go through with it. She was merely seventeen* when she underwent plastic surgery and fans had wondered as to why she had been absent during a few promotional things and why she looked "different". When she came clean, there was massive discussion on whether her undergoing plastic surgery was valid or not, especially since Chaelin was already considered a visual. International ARMY's were especially shocked about South Korea's laws on plastic surgery for underage people. No one from BTS or BigHit further said anything and it just became a natural thing that Chaelin had done things to her appearance.  Some fans were of course mad at her decision but others always came to her defence and supported her.

* It's quite common for underage people to get plastic surgery in South Korea. There isn't an actual age restriction on plastic surgery, however, a lot will depend on the chosen clinic. Some might refuse to operate very young/underage people or want parental consent. I am not saying this is the way things should be, especially for children. I am just stating facts.
