Backstory:

Taehyung and Chaelin started dating in late 2015, after her solo debut. Taehyung had accompanied her to almost all of her solo stages. Taehyung, who priorly had even told fans that Chaelin was his ideal type, having been in love with her since nearly their debut. Just nobody thought he was telling the truth. Chaelin and him often went out for lunch or dinner after her solo schedule and eventually, one thing led to another and they started dating. Rumours started quite quickly but were never confirmed, although Tae wanted to. It wasn't until Burn The Stage that Chaelin was also ok with sharing their "secret" with the world.

The Rumours 

It's been near two years since dating rumours started over BTS members Taehyung and Chaelin. After they died down, an episode of BTS' "Bon Voyage" started up rumours again. During the first episode the two were assigned roommates through a game which caused the others to grin at them to which both only looked down shyly. The next episode showed a short moment of J-Hope waking up the members, but when he came to Taehyung and Chaelin's room, he only looked at something with wide eyes, giggled embarrassed and quickly went away.  Fans' guesses as to what Hoseok might have seen were all somewhat close.

The episode has since been edited and re-uploaded and the clip has been removed. But even other things during the Bon Voyage Series have suggested that there might be more than friendship. When going shopping for Hawaiian Shirts, Chaelin jokingly held up a bikini top with the typical Hawaiian print on it and her bandmate looked at her angrily and said: "No. I don't want other men to look at you in that." 

During the sixth episode Chaelin, Taehyung and Yoongi were one team to enjoy the night, getting food and souvenirs. And whilst Yoongi and Taehyung jokingly held hands throughout the night, Taehyung's arms were always around Chaelin's waist and he fed her his food because "she's too skinny" and gave her a kiss on the cheek.  Priorly fans believed them to be dating for things Taehyung has said:

He has priorly told fans at a fansigning that Chaelin was "his ideal type" and that he "has been in love with her since their debut." Some fans doubt that he was telling the truth, now though they take prior statements into account in order to uncover whether or not this ship is actually real. An insider told Dispatch that the two have been dating for a while but that neither wanted to openly state it and just let fans figure it out on their own.  "Mostly it's Chaelin though," the insider stated, "she get's enough hate for being the girl in BTS. She doesn't want more just because she is doing what makes herself happy."

Reveal

After years of speculation, BTS' V and Chaelin have finally confirmed that they are dating! During the first episode of BTS' show "Burn The Stage", the two openly confessed the fact that they were dating during the interviews. Taehyung seemed to be very happy to show the camera's his girlfriend of nearly three years, happily holding onto her whenever the cameras were on them. The only female member seemed very shy whenever cameras were on them, often looking down but with a smile on her face. 

"I feel very weird openly talking about this," she said during her interview, "but this show is meant to show our fans our private life. And this is a part of my private life. An important one at that." The third episode even showed the two arguing about Chaelin's album "Babygirl" and the repackage "Daydream Princess" (released in March and April 2018 respectively) and the chosen concept which was (quite surprisingly) sexy. Taehyung said: "It's not that I am against you being comfortable in your skin, but I feel uncomfortable with you showing so many men all over the world." Chaelin, in an interview then told the cameras: "I am not someone who is exceptionally open about their sexuality. I don't like to express it, but I respect women who do. This album is meant to show a different side to me and it's about me feeling comfortable with myself. I understand he is uncomfortable with other men looking at me like that, but I feel like this is something I just need to do." 

And for those fans who worry: Just minutes later the two seemed to have made up and were happily smiling at each other!

The majority of the fandom was pretty supportive, given the fact that everyone had rumoured it to be true a long time ago. Of course there were a lot of mainly (male) maknae line stans who did not support the couple at all and even begged BigHit to make them break up and throw Chaelin out of the band-Which made Chaelin stans go off. 

"Y'all remember that a relationship is two people right?! 💀"
"Solo stans out here tryin' to throw out my girl - Y'all bout to catch these hands"
"BTS is eight members and it'll stay that way!"
"Remember when Tae asked ARMY's to love all eight of them? Did y'all solo stans forget that rn bc. it's so convenient to you in this situation?!"

Those kind of comments were often found in Chaelin's defence. BigHit even went as far as putting out a statement, saying that those who chose to attack Chaelin with vulgar words or demeaning actions will have to face legal consequences. It was a mess, really, and Chaelin felt awful the weeks after the relationship had been revealed even thinking about breaking up with Taehyung in order to not make fans upset. After a while though, she started to look over it. This was for her own happiness-not anyone else's. And so, she took to Instagram after nearly three months and posted the first picture with her official boyfriend, captioning it specifically, so that fans would understand she would not break up with him, but stay with him to enjoy whatever would be coming their way.
