Jjeolbae’s P.o.V.
The droplets of water came plopping to my ears. I guess they have not developed this place fully, seeing that the faucet is loosened. They have not improved the security too, since they failed to protected the main guest. Maybe because they have just started this business, or probably they have decided to skip the little details. They should be considering every hole—even the smallest scratch.
“Eh bien, have some tea first to soothe your minds, and your hearts perhaps.” The man who gave us permission entered. His complexion was a little bit confusing and peculiar too. He had soft eyes and pale skin—one you can see from Koreans, but at the same time he had the sharp nose and curved lips, like the typical European features you can see. His face has gained a few wrinkles too, and you could perceive the dullness in his eyes. I suppose it would be safe if I make a meter that his age ranges from thirty five to forty. His accent was also a little bit foreign, but he was fluent in speaking Korean. He was rather odd, and I guess his nationality is a little bit different from ours.
“Ah, Luhan. I am very sorry. I forgot to introduce myself to your…girlfriend perhaps?” He inquired as Luhan nodded and smiled. I then frowned and nudged him, only to earn a chuckle.
“My name is Carlo Do, and I was Luhan’s pediatrician. But it was only for a year, since I got promoted. I kept in touch with him still, and I meet up a few times in a year. Now, I am the president of the medical company I have worked for. Bit of a shabby way through success though. I thought my father would not give me the inheritance, since he favoured my brother more than I. By the way, I have heard from you before, and I have even seen you. But you were probably around five, I think, so maybe you did not remember me much. Man, you two have grown very fast. Oh, time flies fast, just like the birds in migration. I’m starting to think of my youth now. Do you not think that I am very old, Luhan?” He narrated. I was quite shocked with his loquacious attitude, since it was not quite obvious that he is very talkative. Maybe I got confused with the idea of being a doctor—an indoor man, a person of a few words but very sensible, and a man of hard work and intelligence.
“Youth is always brought in the conversations of people, am I right, sir?” Luhan replied while transferring a few portions of tea onto the doctor’s cup.
“Yes. It is most efficient to give the youths idea of the future, and on how they should live their lives out while they are young.” He said as I chuckled. I do think he is right, since many people regret the things they have done before.
“But sir, you could still live out young, am I right? You’re just thirty-seven.” I asked as stared at me and thought for a while.
“You are right, but I am very busy with my business and career. I should be rather going with my friends while I am young! I did not get to think of it before, but I will try.” He said as all of us took a good laugh.
He then glanced at his watch and shoved an old-looking journal from his laboratory gown. After doing so, he shifted a few pages by the middle and paused. He placed it back and stared at us with a little curve on his lips.
“I must be going now. We will be having a few discussions regarding a flu that is spreading around the Eastern part of Asia.” He said and took hold of the door.
“And when Mrs. Clara gets to wake up, inform me. I have left my calling card by the tray. Very wise of me, huh?” He chuckled and made his departure.
Luhan and I sat down the bench, facing the unconscious patient while sipping tea. I do think she must be awake now, since I have searched before that it would only take a few minutes for a person to wake up from collapsing.
We have not known the reason on why she passed out, but they have already said that it was no deal. It was probably because of the weather, since it is bitterly cold around these times. The temperature is a little bit lower than the usual, but I do think that it would be a great deal, since the flow of blood is affected.
“People talk often about youth, huh.” Luhan muttered as I leant back on my chair.
“Yes. They always do.” I replied and placed the cup back to its saucer.
“But only a few talk about growing old.” He said as I nodded and stared at the leaf that was left floating on my tea. I watched it flow around as I felt his gaze drifting towards me. I stared back, naturally, and waited for his continuation.
“It would be fun…if you grow old with someone, am I right? Especially if….that person is dearest to you.” He smiled. I was taken aback.
He blinked a few times and laid back on his chair. I clutched onto the handle and did the same. I closed my eyes and smiled.
“Yes.”
Silence rose until only the clock’s tick can be heard. It was not an awkward quietness, but rather a pose of appreciation between the lines exchanged. It was comfortable yet bothering, and it was good yet questioning.
I stared at the patient’s stretcher again. Although I have a scroll of things to ask, I know I still have to keep it for the right time. She must be guilty, and she must be not. Things were not left clear, and things were left spinning. Connecting the dots would be good, but I have to find the right pattern to connect them all, or else the guilty shall be set free.
“La…..na?” The lady lying muttered, making the two of us stand up and approach her. Her finger flinched, and consciousness is slowly taking her. Her eyes opened, making it scan the two of us.
“Jjeolbae?”
Haven't updated for a very long time, right? I'm very sorry :( :( I hope you appreciate this~
