Yuri was running. His legs were already very numb. His breathing was quickening. When would the tunnel end?

It was freaky enough that there was only a very faint light coming from the end that casted shadows on the walls.

Yuri felt that he had ran for more than an hour already. He felt his tears ready to fall. He wanted to get out. He was desperate for the light, for the air.

The stench in the tunnel was insufferable. It was a mixture of dead animals’ rotten body, blood, shit and other things that he didn’t want to imagine.

The shadows were also frightening. He didn’t know if they were his own or other things might have caused it. He didn’t want to know that, too.

His heart inside his chest was beating weirdly past. It was almost suffocating him. His own body seemed to have been complaining on its own. It knew that something was wrong.

It was then, he felt a slight touch of the night air in his face. He stopped on his tracks. His breath steadied. His heart, though still beating fast seemed to calm down a bit. He was almost there, at the end. He could feel it.

He continued running, faster this time. His breathing, though a bit unbalanced seemed to have stabled.

The light at the end of the tunnel was beginning to expand. Yuri smiled. His long wait will end soon.

He came at the end of the tunnel. He was embraced by the cold air. The moon was shining brightly ahead of him. He sighed in satisfaction. He was already out.

He felt himself wobble. He was shaking. His whole body ached from that long run but he was laughing while he collapsed on the wet soil. He didn’t care anymore. He was really happy.

He was contemplating on the moment when he heard a swish of clothes. Help? He thought.

“Who’s there?” he asked but nobody answered. It must just be his imagination or maybe some animals.

Still shaking all over, he stood up. He needed to find his way home. He flipped his phone and was about to dial a number when he heard the same swishing of clothes. He snapped at the place it came from. Nobody.

He gulped. Then, he listened for more.

It happened so fast, the sounds had been coming from almost anywhere. He was looking around when he felt cold hands on his shoulders.

He snapped at his back.

He came face to face with a pair of red eyes. And then a smiling man.

Yuri gasped. There was blood oozing from the side of his mouth and the man himself smelled of blood.

The man looked intently and Yuri as if he hadn’t been satisfied of his meal that evening and Yuri was his dessert.

Yuri couldn’t find his voice.

“You’re next, Chinen Yuri.” The man, in a powerful, fearful voice whispered.

“Ah!” Chinen gasped.

He was staring at their History teacher’s face.

“How many times do I have to tell you to pay attention to the lessons?” their teacher said angrily while staring down at Yuri.

Yuri straightened. “Gemenasai, sensei.” He bowed. He could feel the eyes of his other classmates in him.

He slightly looked ahead. He met Umika’s eyes. She glared at him.

“You drooled.” Yuto commented quietly after their teacher had gone to the front of the class.

“Gomene.” He mouthed back.
