“How long has it been since I’ve seen your mother?” Tom asked, nudging me with his elbow.
“I don’t know. Since we were like, fourteen?” I said bluntly, as the taxi moved up the road. We were headed to my mother’s house in Southern Florida. Yes, the sun, guys without shirts, and partying, but I didn’t really care. The fact that my mother was getting married, was eating my brain up.
“Tanya!” Tom snapped, waving a hand in front of my face.
“What?” I hissed.
“We’re here.” He sighed, sliding the door open. Tom, Ashlee, Max and I piled out of that cab, as the other cab with Jay, Siva and Nathan. I looked at the big white house, away from the road a bit, with a big front yard, and a garage that connected to the house. The door swung opened and my mother came charging at me, arms opened wide.
“Tanya! I’ve missed you.” She whispered, hugging me, then kissing my head.
“I missed you too Mom.” I sighed, hugging her.
“Grace!” Tom roared, scooping her away in a bear hug.
“Thomas!” She called out, hugging him, then ruffling his short brown hair. “How have you been? I hear your in a boy band..” She smirked. I rolled my eyes, taking my bag out of the trunk. “Where’s Ashlee!?”
“I’m here.” Ash said, picking her bag up, only dropping it, because my mother hugged her tightly. “Nice to see you too Grace.” Ashlee smiled.
“You’ve grown! You all have.” My mother smiled, looking at us three up and down. “I remember when you were yay tall, and wearing dresses..” My mom gushed. Everybody looked at Tom and burst into laughter.
“Shut up.” He mumbled, grabbing his bag and heading up to the house.
“Who are these handsome fellas?” My mother asked, looking at the other boys thoroughly.
“Mom, this is Siva, Max, Nathan and Jay. Tom’s band mates. Guys, this is my mother, Grace.” I said. They all gave her a hug and kiss on the cheek.
“So, which one of you is dating my daughter? Or is dating Ashlee?” My mother smiled, looking from Ash and I to the boys.
“Mom.” I whined, rolling my eyes.
“I was just wondering.”
“I think Jay would be the one for your daughter..” Max grinned, rubbing Jay’s ear. Jay shot him a look, and then smiled sheepishly at my mother.
“Nathan and Ashlee have a love/hate thing going on.” I grinned as Ashlee shot me the same look Jay gave Max.
“He loves me, but I hate him.” She smiled sourly, walking up to the house.
“Well then..” My mother mumbled. “Let’s go. Get inside, I got food, drinks, games-”
“We’re not five Mom.” I said, dragging my bag up to the house with everybody following. I opened the door and I heard a bark. I dropped my bag and knelt on the floor. “Jaws!” I called.
“Jaws?!” The boys said, their eyes wide.
“He’s not that scary.” Ashlee said rolling her eyes, grabbing a soda from the fridge.
“Jaws, c’mere boy!” I called again, and I heard a bark, and paws patting down on the wooden floors through the house.
“He’s not big is he?” Siva asked.
“He doesn’t bite does he?” Jay asked.
“You guys are such wimps. Here he comes.” I smiled, as my short haired black and tan Dachshund dog came running up to me.
