Chapter 5: Don't Tell Mother

Chris pov

"so she seriously doesn't remember you?" crawford, my brother asked while getting a bowl of lucky charms.

"no! and I don't get it! She remembers everybody but me. like why?"

" damn. I feel bad for you. I knew you had a thing for her."

"i know.."

"Let's make some vines after I eat?" he said stuffing his mouth on the couch.

"nah. not in the mood."

" let's go to the park or something?"

"fine."

Crawford and I were walking along the trails looking at all the couples swimming in the lake.

" so man, how you gonna get her to remember you? " crawford asked.

"i told you I don't know! especially with her brother in the way."

"just talk to hunter. Gotta get through that barrier one day right?"

We were just walking in silence until crawford pointed someone out.

" Dude is that maddie? " she was sitting all alone. "Go talk to her!" he motioned me towards her.

I looked at him with a worried look but i ended up heading over there anyways. i sat next to her.

"hey maddie bear.." my voice cracked.

" why do you keep following me chris? "

" just please give me a second mads. "

" I - I'm sorry but --"

" What are you doing here Collins."

Espinosa?

"What are you doing here matt?"

"I have a date with the lovely Maddie Larsen" they both looked and each other and smiled. I was really confused. How could she remember Matthew and not me? Especially when he cheated on her in high school.

"I have to go Chris." they took each other hand by hand and left me hanging.

I found crawford 3 minutes later eating ice cream by himself .

" Stop being a loner. Let's go."

i told him everything that happened and by then we were in the median of maddies and my house. To go to my house, you turn left. To go to maddies, you turn right. I told crawford to go home while I stop by maddies house. crawford was right. I had to break that barrier someday.

I knocked on the door. As hunter opened the door, he rolled his eyes. "Maddie isn't home."

"i know. I want to talk to you." he raised his eyebrows and told me I had five minutes to explain myself. I sat on the couch.

"you want to know why I crashed?" i asked.

"you're a fucking idiot" he chuckled.

"Wrong. I didn't keep my eyes on the road because I couldn't stop staring at your sister. She's looked stunning for linda's party. I think my jaw was about to fall off."

He didn't say anything.

"Hunter, I'm In love with your sister..."

Maddie Pov

Matt and I were at his house just talking on the couch. "I'm sorry Chris the idiot Collins had to ruin your day." he looked me in the eyes and put his hand on my thigh.

"It's fine, I'm actually getting used to it. Him showing up at the randomest times."

RING RING RING

" sorry maddie, I'll be back." he said.

He was in the kitchen so mumbles were the most I heard. The only words I heard him say was "nothing babe.", "tomorrow for sure", and "i love you too babe." My head was spinning so I decided to fall asleep.

When I woke up on Matt's couch I heard someone in the kitchen. "Hello?" i laughed to myself. I felt like I was in one of the horror movies like insidious or something.

"Oh sweetie you're awake! You must be Matt's girlfriend!" a lady who I guessed was Matt's mom came to me and shook my hand. " i made deviled eggs if you'd like some sweetheart."

Girlfriend?

"Thank you" i smiled, "but where's matt?"

"He went to a party! He didn't tell you?"

"Um, no?"

"Well he's at a party with a girl named linda."

Linda's party. of course. She loves parties and getting drunk. I went back to the living room to get my phone. One text message from Hunter.

Where are you?

To: Big Bro

Omw to linda's. Will be back by 1 in the morning. Don't tell mother.
