Later That Night

Lilith had finished her dinner and was now peacefully listening to the music on her phone. Still stuck without wifi to video-call Abigail, she texted her briefly.

SO U LIKING IRELAND?

I GUESS. EVERYTHING IS SUPER DIFFERENT THAN AUSTRALIA

WELL DUH

U KNOW WHAT I MEAN

OF COURSE I DO. ANYWAY, I GTG. MOM'S BEING A NUT AGAIN. TTYL

Lilith sighed and leaned back in her bed. She'd put the sheets on and plugged another lamp in closer to her bed. The only light in the dark room was from her small phone and the moon outside.
The clock on her wall said '10:30'.
Lilith figured that it wasn't too late, so she'd text Mike. Besides, it was summer.
She scrolled through her contacts until she found his name,

HEY MIKE,  IT'S LILITH. WE MET EARLIER

OHHHH RIGHT. LILITH MALLORY!

YEAH

NO, WAIT. JUST LIL, RIGHT?

Lilith giggled, JUST LIL

SO WHAT'S GOIN ON LIL?

UH NM, WBU?

NUTHIN

SO HOW'D WENDI'S RECITAL GO?

BORING, AS ALWAYS

NOW NOW, DON'T BE A BAD BROTHER

I'M NOT, I PROMISE. I TOLD HER ABOUT U, SHE CAN'T WAIT 2 MEET U

Lilith smiled. Perhaps finding friends would be easy. Suddenly an idea hit her.

I GOTTA PAINT MY ROOM TOMORROW. YOU AND WENDI WANNA COME OVER AND HELP? I MEAN, YOU DON'T HAVE TO ACTUALLY PAINT, JUST COME HANG.

A few minutes went by without a reply and Lilith grew nervous.
The minutes turned into an hour and Lilith became tired. She put her phone on the nightstand and decided that if she didn't get a reply by morning, she'd just call him.

Lilith was just on the verge of sleep when a ding from her phone woke her up. It was from Mike.

SURE, I JUST SPOKE 2 HER. SEE YA TOMORROW,  LIL MALLORY

Lilith closed her eyes and felt asleep with a smile on her face.

A FEW HOURS INTO THE NIGHT

Lilith shivered and pulled her comforter up to her chin. The chill became unbearable and she sat up to close the vent. It was then that she realized the cold wasn't coming from the vent. The window was wide open and a breeze was blowing in.

Puzzled, Lil got up and shuffled over to the window. She was almost positive she locked it before bed, but now it was open.

"Must have forgotten," she murmured.

She sat on the sill and placed her arms on the ledge. Draping one arm out the window to feel the cool air. She placed her head on her other arm and gazed into the sky.
The stars had never looked so bright. Even in Australia, in the most remote parts, she had never seen stars shine so brightly. Particularly one to her right. As she was slipping back into sleep, a shooting star slid across the sky like a tear from a giant.
