A/N: Hey guys! SO I decided to change things up a bit since some action (FINALLY) picked up! This chapter will be in Lil's Point Of View (POV) and totally from her perspective! I'll be periodically changing things up so remember to pay attention to the bold headings at the beginning of each chapter. Enjoy☆
LIL'S POV:
I can't tell how long I've been holding my breath, but whatever air is left inside my lungs is about to expire.
Around me all there is is darkness, and more darkness. I can't tell if my eyes are open or not but the nothingness in front of me doesn't change. My body is being compressed into a ball, the water pushing me into myself.
I don't understand what's happening! I fell into the water and now... what? I'm dying?
Oh. Great. I'm dying.
Next thing I know my head is being pressed into my knees, and my arms bent in uncomfortable positions. The last bit of air in my lungs is released in a silent scream that I yell into the dark.
My mind begins to fog and I can no longer tell my thoughts apart. Everything is... jumbled.
And somewhere. Somewhere in the darkness, I hear drums. Long, frequent banging that sounds eerie as it travels through the water.
I can no longer feel my toes, or my fingertips. I'm numb, and certain that these are my last moments.
And just like that, the pressure is gone. I can begin to feel my body parts and I flex my toes to test it out. I unravel from my ball and behind my eyelids I see pink.
Pink?
My eyes fly open and I see blue water in every direction.
Wait. I can see!
The darkness is gone!
Below me and around me is a clear blue that stretches on forever. My hair is floating around my head and I see the dark red strands as I turn in different directions.
How did I get here? In the middle of some ocean? Or... am I dead?
A burning sensation in my chest reminds me that I need air. And immediately. So, guess that rules being dead out of the picture.
I tilt my head up and see above me the source of the light. The water looks a lighter shade of blue and I figure that's my best option of getting out of here.
I reach my arms up into the water and kick with my sore legs, making my way to the top. The swim is excruciatingly slow, and each stroke drains me of more and more energy. Finally I can feel the water thinning around me and I reach up one last time before feeling the water give way to air, and dragging myself to the surface.
The moment my head goes up I take a loud breath of air. I keep my eyes shut tightly because the salty water burns them, and I continue trying to fill my lungs with much needed air. I have to keep moving my arms and legs to tread in the water, and the waves passing by me make it increasingly difficult.
Once I find a steady rhythm to keep afloat, I look in front of me. A short distance away, there is a beach. I can see the yellow sand and palm trees that line the shore, along with piles of large rocks scattered down the coast. I'm not sure what it is, or where I am, but one thing I know for sure. I need to get out of the water. Quickly. Otherwise I may drown from pure exhaustion.
I make my way towards the shore, swallowing salt water and struggling to stay above as I go. The distance is farther than I anticipated and by the time I'm able to reach my feet to the sand, I'm surprised my legs are still there.
