Alina and Lil were sitting on a beach, looking out at the water. As Lil watched, she saw the flicker of a tail in the water.
What is that? She wondered.
She stood up and walked into the water up to her ankles, Alina on her shoulder. The water was warm against her feet and the sand squished underneath her toes. The flicker of color happened again, and her curiosity peeked. She took another few steps into the water, and was now up to her waist. She looked down at her brown, long sleeve shirt and didn't care that it was getting soaked.
Lil.
She heard her name in a whisper and her head shot up, looking towards the ocean in front of her. Out of the water in front of her, a woman appeared. But not just any woman, her mother. Her hair was longer and was plastered to her wet body. There were pieces of seaweed tied into it, and her eyes were the darkest shade of black Lil had ever seen.
Mom? She croaked. Her mother put up one finger to her lips, silencing her, and suddenly she felt a hand on her ankle. It pulled her under the water and-

THUMP

Something knocked the air out of Lil and all she saw around her was blackness. She opened one eye and the world was on its side. She bit her lip in pain as she slowly brought her hands up underneath her and pushed herself up into a sitting position. The grass rubbed against her hands and knees as she straightened her back and rubbed her eyes. Once the stars in her vision disappeared, her disruption of a dream made sense. She looked behind her at the tree and then up into the branches. Groaning at herself as she stretched out her sore arm,

"Good job, Lil. Good job."

Above her she heard a jingle of alarm, "Lil? Lil where are you?"

"It's alright, Alina. I'm down here."

The tiny fairy jumped onto a lower branch, "What are you doing down there?"

Lil sighed and stretched her other arm, "Oh you know. I fell."

Alina giggled, "You fell? That must of hurt."

"It did." Lil chuckled as she stood up from the ground.

Alina moved down to a branch almost eye level with Lil, "So did you make a decision?"

"I don't know," Lil sighed, "I've been thinking about it all night and I guess I fell asleep because I had a really weird dream about my mom. And you were in it too."

Alina scooted closer, "Share share share!"

Lil smiled, "It was really bizarre. We were sitting on a bea-"

"LIL!" A voice interrupted.

Lil spun around to see Wendi, Jonathan, and Mike sprinting towards her. She quickly turned back to Alina and whispered, "Hide!"

Mid-turn, Wendi catapulted herself into Lil's arms.

"Where on earth have you been?"

"What?" Lil uttered.

Wendi held Lil at arm's length,

"You've been gone for THREE DAYS! The entire town has been searching for you! Your mom and dad sent out this massive search party the day after you ran away. Which I heard about, by the way. YOU RAN AWAY! Are you five years old, Lil? Who runs away? Seriously, we've been worried sick about you! More like I've been worried sick about you!"
