Chapter 4
Saturday morning, I sat on my couch watching TV. There was a knock at my door and my friends entered.
"Hey." Maggie beamed.
"Hey." I smiled and hugged them. They smiled at me.
"Did you know the preschool had a fire?" Ronnie asked. Did I ever.
"I heard about it." I replied.
"Apparently, someone set it. The police don't know who. There's no clues."
"Interesting." I tried to sound as if the whole thing bored me.
"Do you have food?" Maggie asked. "I have the same appetite as my brother."
"Sandwiches?" I suggested.
"Roast beef." Maggie agreed. I went to the kitchen and they followed. I pulled out the bread and meat. I grabbed the mayo from the fridge.
"You still dating Leo?" Ronnie asked.
"Yes, I am."
"Did you catch something?" Maggie opened the fridge and grabbed a soda.
"Be nice." I ordered.
'Chels, you know how I feel about him." Ronnie said.
"You know how I feel about him too." I fired back.
"We just want what's best for you."
"Isn't my happiness what's best for me?" I snapped.
"You're just like your sister." Maggie roared.
"What is that supposed to mean?" I demanded.
"You date guys your friends don't like to get back at them." Maggie growled.
"Not everything is about you!" I yelled.
"No, everything is about you!" Maggie shouted.
"Get out!"
"Fine." Maggie stomped out the door. Ronnie gave me a conflicted look before she left.
