Chapter 15

I opened my eyes to find Stanley next to me. Leo was on the other side of him. They were still unconscious. I stood up and looked around. A few minutes later, Detective Brians and Tiffany entered the room. I moved backwards. My sister smirked at me.

"I always win, Chels." She walked closer to me.

"You haven't won completely. Plus, I don't think cheating counts as winning."

"We'll see about that." She sneered. Detective Brians grabbed my arms.

"Furtum aer ex pulmone exspirare." Detective Brians gasped for breath. His body started shaking. His hands trembled.

Tiffany only smiled. "I see you've been practicing in the last few months."

"You honestly don't care about anyone, do you?"

"I cared about you once. It was before I found out about the curse. I truly loved you." She seemed like she was telling the truth, but I didn't want to believe her. She stared at me.

"What changed?" I asked.

"Everything. But the main thing is me. The things that happen in your life can change you forever. I used care about a lot of things. I wanted people around me, but now I want to be alone." She looked sad and for the first time, I could see how lonely she was.

"How does it feel to be alone?"

"It feels cold and empty, but I don't feel that way anymore." She replied.

"You feel anger." I concluded. She nodded. I was starting to wonder if I could kill my sister. What changed? What made her want to be alone? I wanted to ask these questions, but I was wasting time. What happened to her didn't really matter. I couldn't change it. No one could.

"Don't feel bad for me. There's nothing worse than pity."

"Something we agree on." I said. "Do you care about Detective Brians?"

"Not really. He's getting old. In fact-" She went to him. He had regained control of his breathing. "Tollit animam a corpore." Detective Brians fell down. He laid still and his eyes stayed open. He was dead. All those emotions I just felt for Tiffany were gone. She'd just killed the guy who loved her. I stared at my sister not with shock, not with fear, but with shame. Her heart was black. She loved no one.

"Dolorem ad cerebrum." My sister screamed and clutched her head. She fell to her knees.

She looked up at me. "Sanguinem ex vena omnis." My nose started to bleed and other parts of me did too.

"Prohibere." Her spell quickly wore off.

"You really have learned a lot. See you later." She ran from the room. Leaving me with Detective Brians's body.
