Jason's POV
Today was the one day I had promised Robin I would spend time with her. At first I had denied it, but she then continued to say that I owed her one for hooking me up with her best friend and so I couldn't really say no afterwards. She was right. Without her there would be no Charlie. It was about 11 in the morning as I had told Robin to not come over too early, but luckily she too wanted some extra sleep. Last night she had stayed out on patrol with Bruce to get some extra training so it wasn't surprising she was tired this morning.I got out of bed and headed straight to the bathroom to shower and change. I took little time getting ready and was more than eager to get into the kitchen to make myself a cooked breakfast. I rummaged through the fridge before realising I had nothing to cook. I could go out and buy some food, but I didn't have much time.... Maybe Robin could portal it to me. Hoping Robin was alive and awake after her long excursion last night, I texted her, informing her that she could have a cooked breakfast at mine, but only if she brought the ingredients with her. She replied immediately and moments later she turned up in my safe house in her pyjamas still, a carrier bag of ingredients in her hand. "I'm surprised you've already got dressed Jay," Robin joked. "I'm surprised you're not half dead after your long night Rob," I returned. "Dad wouldn't let me do much anyway so I'm not that tired. It's not fair he forgets that I'm perfectly capable on my own," Robin moaned.
I laughed at her as an idea came to mind. "Want to shoot some things with me today? No killing obviously but we can go paint balling or something?" I suggested. Robin's eyes lit up in excitement, "I'd love to! Should we invite more people? Or is it just gonna be us two versus everyone else, because we'd make a pretty sick team," Robin joked. I smiled at the thought of me and Robin being a dastardly duo at paint balling. "Just us two will be good," I replied. She nodded and placed the bag of ingredients down on the kitchen worktop. "So how about we make breakfast?"
Breakfast was a disaster. We couldn't have made more mess if we tried. We first started off with pancakes, but they went everywhere, the floor, the ceiling, the sink, the back of our t-shirts and then finally the bin. None of it was edible so we moved onto bacon, eggs, sausages etc, a typical cooked breakfast. I burned that too. Robin and I were fighting over how long it would take to cook and as we were arguing the time was passing anyway and well we decided on how long they took a little too late. Days like this made me miss Alfred's cooking.
"How about cereal? We can't possibly mess that up," Robin stated, as we tidied up some of the mess. "Yeah cereal seems safe," I agreed, hoping not to make any more mess I'd have to clean up later. We both sat silently on the sofa, the only sound you could hear was the occasionally clinking of our spoons against our bowls. I glanced to my left and towards Robin, hiding a grin as I thought about how we had ended up here. She caught my eye and grinned too. We broke out into laughter, spluttering as we tried to swallow our food, "we really made a mess of breakfast didn't we," I laughed. Robin agreed laughing, "next time I eat before I come over."
Once we had both had our fair share of food Robin portalled home and got changed then portalled back and we headed out. When we got there we were given appropriate protective clothing and our paint guns. The game contained 8 players, 4 teams of 2, Robin and I being one of them. When asked what our team name was before we began I had little ideas to what we should call ourselves, but Robin told me she had it and wrote it down on the paper. I didn't have time to check it, so here I was, shooting by her side, hoping it wasn't incredibly embarrassing.
"So what's the game plan Jay?" Robin asked me. "Stay low, stay quiet. Treat it like a stealth mission for now," I instructed, not too sure of the plan myself. I never really had a plan, but since she asked for one I had to say something otherwise I would've looked like I had no idea what I was doing. Being honest I didn't have any idea how paintball worked, I knew how real guns worked and it was nothing in comparison to this. "Upper floor, right hand corner," Robin whispered to me. I nodded and steadied my aim, I had a better range than Robin did and a steadier hand. "I'm hit! Where did that come from!?" The guy I shot shouted. His friend came to support him as Robin and I switched positions.
