Robin's POV
So today was Charlie's day with me, it had been a while since we last hung out together for a whole day due to the busy lives we both had now. Charlie said she had come earlier because she had organised something the previous time she had visited. So I let her lead the weekend. She knew Gotham a little better now anyway so I didn't see any harm in doing so. "So where are we going?" I asked, curious as my friend insisted we talk a walk through town. "My secret. We're meeting someone at the park," she told me, looping her arm through mine. I grinned and walked with her, various names running through my head at who it could possibly be. The boys maybe? Wally? She had met him after all, yeesh that was a reckless weekend. Barry maybe? Or some of the batgirls?"I know that look. You're trying to use that detective brain of yours to figure it out," she quipped. She stopped us walking and turned to me with a smug grin. "This time you'll never expect who it is. C'mon we're gonna be late if we dawdle." She grabbed my wrist as she began walking again, dragging me behind her.
We reached Gotham city and as we passed the precinct near the park I knew we were going to the park for this meet-up. "Any ideas yet?" Charlie teased. I stayed silent. I never liked it when she knew more than me. She sat down underneath the tree we had stopped at and patted the floor, gesturing for me to join her. "Any minute now..." she spoke, eyes gazing around looking for them. I joined in too, looking for a person I may recognise, or who didn't quite fit in, in this normal atmosphere. Who could she possibly have got to meet up with us if they weren't someone who knew us. Or my family.
That's when I spotted a figure, striding around, glancing around as we did. Charlie let out a strangled squeal as she silenced her excitement. "I can't believe he actually came. This is so cool!" Charlie whispered, letting out her excitement before she embarrassed herself when they arrived. "Which one of you ladies called me with a... demon problem?" He asked, a British twang in his voice. I flicked my eyes over to the man beside us now, different to the man I thought was meeting us. Blondish hair and haunted blue eyes. I pointed up at my friend. "Oh no she's lying it was her," Charlie blagged. I sighed and dragged my hands down my face in disappointment. I could lie or I could be honest. He would hate me less for the latter so I went with that decision.
"Look I didn't even know we were coming here today. I assume Chaz here called you because she wanted to meet you. She's into the whole... powers... stuff. Sorry you came out here. I can pay for your hotel if you like, or lunch?" I explained, covering up for Charlie.
"Well, if you called me out all this way just to meet me, luv, the least you could do is buy me a drink. But what I want t' know, is why in the bloody 'ell would the heiress of Bruce Wayne want to meet a tosser like me?"
"Let's just say I like meeting new people." I countered. He looked suspiciously at the pair of us before pulling a cigarette box from his golden brown trench coat. "Alright then. Lunch it is."
After our lunchtime surprise, that ended late into the afternoon, I went home, dragging Charlie behind me. I wasn't mad, I was just annoyed that she had 1. Done this without warning me, and 2. Wasted the time of someone who probably didn't have a lot of it. "That was John freaking Constantine and you just to decide to waste his time AND embarrass me. You're lucky you're my best friend," I warned. She threw her hands up in the air. "Sorry I can't surprise you with anything nice anymore," she grumbled. I sighed and went over to hug her in apology for losing it so easily. She pushed me away as I outstretched my arms to her. "Look Chaz, I'm sorry, it's just that's John Constantine. From the comics I've read, tho I only read one or two of the Hellblazer series, but I also saw the tv show. It's just I wasn't quite ready to meet him yet."
Charlie scoffed, "like hell. You forgot about him." I felt my heart sink a little. Ok so maybe I did, but he was my favourite magician out of all of them. Sorry Zatanna, John just has the bit of British flare that makes him unique from most other heroes living in America. "Still. It was pretty amazing we just had lunch with him," I added, grinning. Charlie laughed, "I know right. He's even better looking in real life. And on the plus side, I don't stick out so much when he's talking. At least my British accent is the most stereotyped one, I don't think the slight northern twang helps his case much over here." Charlie replied. And like that we had made up again.
