Peggy POV

"I remember the first day I met her, Rachel. It's a vivid memory that will forever remain in my mind," I said to Rachel. For the past hour, I had been going on and on about Maria.

"Then try to really think about that memory tonight. If you think about it enough, it may invade your dreams. It'll help you sleep," Rachel replied.

"But why do I need to sleep if I'm inside my conscience?" I asked warily.

"It'll help you relax. Now try to get some rest, child." I decided it was in my best interest not to argue, so I laid down and tried to sleep, thinking of nothing but that day three years ago when I met Maria.

My phone vibrated and the screen lit up, illuminating my room. Groaning, I rolled over to see that it was a text from Alex.

SmolScrappy&Hungry: You awake Peggs?

aND PEGAY: I am now. What is so important that you had to wake me up at 7:30?

SmolScrappy&Hungry: I have a friend who just moved to NYC from New Jersey that is looking for a place to stay. Would you be interested in having a new roommate?

I pondered the question for a second. It did get pretty lonely around here in my empty apartment. Especially since my old roommate graduated college and moved away.

aND PEGAY: Sure! Sounds fun! When would they move in?

SmolScrappy&Hungry: ..............

SmolScrappy&Hungry: Today........

aND PEGAY: You have to come over and help me clean then. What time will they be here?

SmolScrappy&Hungry: Fine! And we have until around 3.

When Alex arrived, we got right down to business and super cleaned the entire apartment. Once we were done, all the surfaces looked spotless, the living room and kitchen looked properly in order, the bathroom was practically sparkling, and the guest room looked more welcoming. Satisfied with our work, we both sat down on the sofa in the living room.

"Woah! It's already 2:56! That went by fast," I exclaimed. Alexander hummed in reply.

"So, before they arrive, can you please tell me a little bit of information about my future roommate?" I asked.

"Well, her name's Maria. Maria Reynolds. She's a really nice girl, and she looks strikingly similar to you," Alex answered before being interrupted by a sharp knock.

"That must be her," I exclaimed while walking over to the door. When I opened it, I was greeted by the most beautiful human being I had ever seen.

"Hi! My name's Maria!" Maria said while extending her hand for me to shake.

"Hi! My name's Peggy!" Play it cool Margarita.

"You're hot!"

Dammit.

"What?" Maria asked, confused and now blushing. I felt my face go red before I answered.

"I meant you must be hot. New York summers can be brutal."

"Oh. Yeah. It is pretty hot outside," Maria replied. I heard Alex laughing from the other room.

Later that day, once Maria had settled in, I texted Alex.

aND PEGAY: I think I'm in love with Maria

SmolScrappy&Hungry: Ya think?

Maria POV

I was currently lying on my bed staring up at the ceiling. For the past hour, all I could think about was the first time I had met Peggy. Alex, who had been my only friend from NYC at the time (I met him through Twitter), had convinced one of his friends to let me live with them for a little while. I was so overly grateful that he had found me somewhere to live that didn't care that I had just about no idea who my future roommate was. The only thing I did know about them was their address. Alex had told me to come to said address around three, so, excitedly, I showed up at exactly 2:57. I remember eagerly knocking on the door before the most beautiful human I had ever seen answered. The mini conversation that followed still makes me blush.

"Hi! My name's Maria!" I said while extending my hand for her to shake.

"Hi! My name's Peggy!" Peggy replied. She then said something that I would've never expected.

"You're hot!"

My face felt like it caught on fire. "What?" I questioned.

Peggy was quick to respond. "I meant you must be hot. New York summers can be brutal." I could faintly notice the adorable blush tinting her cheeks.

"Oh. Yeah. It is pretty hot outside," I muse, not knowing what else to say. I then hear laughter come from inside the apartment.

I giggled at the memory. From day one, I had been head over heels for my roommate. I had even admitted it to Alex the same day I moved in over a text message.
