A/N I apologize in advance for this

"Do you have a list of suspects yet, Alex?" Maria asked tiredly. "It's been two hours."

"Before I go into a rant about possible suspects, allow me to show you the evidence left behind by the criminal," Alex stated. "John, can you please bring the things we found into the front room?"

"Yup! Coming Lexi!" John yells from the kitchen. Maria, Alexander, Angelica, and Eliza were currently in the living room. John approached with several different bags filled with several different objects.

"So, for starters, we found multiple things that seem to connect back to the crime," John explained.

"What'd ya find Johnny boy?" Eliza asked impatiently. John frowned at the nickname before answering.

"Well, we found a small, opened bottle of Sam Adams on the floor by the door, a pocket knife under the table, a bullet shell underneath the loveseat, a pair of pliers by the elevator control panel, and a gun hidden in the flower box outside the window."

"Did you say pliers by the elevator control panel?" Maria inquired skeptically.

"Yes," Alex said.

"You don't suppose someone cut the power in the elevator on purpose while I was inside," Maria exclaimed as more of a statement than a question. "I mean, the power did come back on almost immediately after I heard the gunshots."

"That......does oddly add up," Angelica said quizzically from her perch on the arm of the couch.

"Well then, me and John will go see if the building manager will allow us to take a look at the recent footage from the security cameras," Alex noted before abandoning us and his cup of coffee.

"I'm gonna go take a nap. Food's in the fridge," Maria mused tiredly once the boys left before staggering her way to bed and passing out.

Maria awoke in the middle of a dark room. She was alone, sitting on the floor, and extremely confused. Suddenly, she noticed faint light coming from behind her. Cautiously, she turned around. She was met with what looked like a perfectly normal hospital room inside a dark, endless void. After closer investigation, she thought she recognized the woman laying in the hospital bed.

"Doctor, Marga-er, Peggy has been in a coma for a year now. She has showed no signs of improvement or hinted that she may wake up soon. What would you like us to do?" a jittery nurse asked, abruptly breaking the silence.

"It's time we pull the plug on this one. The family and friends won't approve, of course, but I don't care. Miss Schuyler has wasted enough of our time," the doctor answered nonchalantly. The nurse simply nodded. Maria shot up faster than lighting. She was going to kill that doctor. She broke into a sprint as she charged toward him, only to run into some invisible barrier.

"Why!" Maria screamed, falling to her knees. She watched helplessly as everything occurred in slow motion.

"Stop! Please!" Maria screeched. Everyone ignored her as she cried.

Beep. Beep. Beep. Beeeeeeeeeeeeee-

Maria choked as Peggy's heart monitor went silent. She looked at Peggy's doctor with a glare so full of misery and hate that the nurse doubled over and passed out.

"You're next," she breathed out. Instead of cowering, the doctor just laughed. When he regained himself, Maria couldn't believe what she saw in front of her.

The doctor was her ex husband.

James Reynolds.

"Why?!" Maria cried while pounding her fists on the invisible barrier. "I HATE YOU I HATE YOU IHATEYOUIHATEYOUIHATEYOU," she continued to chant over and over again.

"YOU TOOK AWAY THE ONE PERSON IN MY LIFE WHO I ACTUALLY, GENUINELY LOVED. SHE WASN'T LIKE MY OTHER FRIENDS. I LOVED HER. I STILL LOVE HER!"

Suddenly, Maria felt arms loosely wrap around her torso.

"Hey Mar," a gentle voice said from behind her. Maria whipped around, soon facing the ghost of the face she loved so much.

"Peggy!" Maria cried, sobbing into Peggy's shirt.

"Mar, I love you. So much." Maria looked up with tear filled eyes. "But you need to let me go."

Maria's face became pain stricken once more. "No. No! I'll never let you go!" she sobbed.

Peggy caressed Maria's face with her hand. "Shhh. Darling. It'll be alright. Come morning light, you and I'll be safe and sound. Together," Peggy whispered before disappearing.

"No!" Maria cried, burying her face in her hands. What was she in a world without Peggy?

Maria gasped as she shot up in bed. Tears were streaming down her face as she remembered the haunting dream. Her dreams were always clouded by James, but now Peggy was there too. It served as a cruel reminder that something as simple as a plug could end Peggy's time on this planet. Maria sobbed into her pillow.

"I'm not gonna sleep. Not for a while," she choked out to herself.

A/N I'M SORRY FOR THE ANGST
