I woke up with a smile the next day. The thought that I had seen Dani yesterday made the smile bloom.
It did trouble me, though, when I would see Dani again. I got an idea so I decided to go ask Miles for a ride.
"Miles, could you drive me to the library?" I asked.
"Ok, give me a sec" he replied.
I walked out and managed to sneak past my mom. I got into Miles' car and waited. About 5 minutes later Miles got in and drove me to the library.
"Do I need to pick you up later?" he asked.
"Uh no I'll find a way home" I answered. I had no plan of getting home, but I didn't want to push his kindness "Thank you."
Then he drove away and I turned around and entered the library.
I got to the nearest computer and sat down. Once I powered it up and I googled Instagram. It took me to a signup site and I created the username melodyj17. The first thing I did was look up Daniel Seavey. It brought me to his profile seaveydaniel. I DMed him and waited for a response
Me: Hey this is Melody. Did u want to meet up later?
Him: How do I know its really you?
Me: Trust I guess.
Him: What city did we meet in?
Me: Lincoln City, Oregon in a local ice cream shop.
Him: Wow. Melody I didn't know you had Instagram.
Me: Just got it. Like a few minutes ago.
Him: Oh. And yes I would like to meet up.
Me:How about Fifty Licks?
Him: See you then.
I excited the chat and just looked at his profile the first three were just of him smiling, and the others were with his band mates. But the one that caught my eye was

My heart dropped. I wanted to cry or throw up, or all of the above.
I know it had been months since I last saw him and he was bound to move on it just still hurt. I know I should go see him, because I will regret it if I don't.

Once I made it to the ice cream shop I scanned the room for Dani, until I settled on his smiling face across the room. I managed a small smile and made my way over to him.
He hugged me and it felt different from all the other times we had hugged. It was probably because I now knew that another girl had hugged him with as much love as I did for him.
Once we got our ice cream we sat down and talked.
"So, how was your junior year academically wise?" he asked.
"Good I guess. You know, boring as ever." I said looking down. The awkwardness was growing with every second, so I decided to confront the elephant in the room.
"Do you have a girlfriend?" I asked, making eye contact with him for the first time since I walked in the door.
"Yes" he said in a small voice.
I swallowed the lump of sadness in my throat and tried to contain myself.
"I only fell in love again because I thought I would never see you again" he tried to explain
It only made it worse. I couldn't handle myself so I left.
"I have to go" I said and practically ran out of the door.
I ran and ran until I came upon a bench and took a seat. I pulled my legs up to my chest and let the tears fall.
A few minutes later I heard footsteps approach the bench. I lifted my head just a little bit so I could see who it was. Sure enough it was Dani.
"Melody, listen I'm so so so sorry. It's just I thought that since I would never see you again, and that I had to move on" he said. At this point there was a tear coming down his face too.
"No, you shouldn't be apologizing you did nothing wrong. I guess I just had this fantasy that everything would go back to the way they were during the summer. But, of course they wouldn't. Gosh why am I so stupid!" I replied.
"Hey, hey don't say that. You had every right to believe that, and yeah I wish things would go back to what they were like. But they can't because I have a girlfriend that I love." he said.
That's when my heart broke. He. Truly. Loves. Another. Girl.
Now my tears had stopped and I felt numb.
"Come here-" he reached out towards me.
"No! Don't touch me!" I yelled. Then I saw true, pure sadness in his eyes, so I ran as fast as my legs would take me.
I wound up in a field near the highway.
