Chapter 8

Melody's pov

I walked inside and everything seemed normal, so I made my way upstairs. Just like last time the lights flickered on and I saw my mother standing there swishing around a drink in her hand.

"Look who decided to show up. While you were out doing god knows what, I got you a job at DQ" she said.

"Thank you" I said in a small voice.

"I only think in return you have to do one thing for me. The funny thing is you really thought I wouldn't find out about the boy. Daniel, that was his name right. Well, in return, you will never see Daniel again" she said.

"No, I won't. Ever" I replied.

"Oh and if you don't I will contact news publications like TMZ and send them pictures I have of you and Daniel being very close. Doesn't Daniel have a girlfriend? What would that do to his reputation? He would probably never talk to you again. Why not end it here, before things get ugly?" she asked.

She was right, I would ruin his reputation and relationship. Of all the good things Dani has done for me I could never do that to him. I will just have to end it here so like she said, nothing gets ugly.

"Ok" I answered.

"Good. Your first day at DQ is tomorrow now go to bed" she said and swallowed the last of her drink.

I walked upstairs and began to regret ever meeting Daniel so this wouldn't be so difficult.

I layed in bed that night, crying myself to sleep, considering on how to tell Dani that I couldn't ever see him again.

I woke up to the sound of my mother screaming at me to get up.

Once I did I put on an oversized sweater and blue jeans. I put my hair up into a messy ponytail. I looked at the clock and it read 9:40, I had 20 minutes till I head to meet Dani at the corner of my street.

My shift at DQ doesn't start till 10:30 today and my mom was going to drop me off to make sure I went.

It was 10 and I made my towards the corner of the street. I told my mom I was going to get some air, she told me if I wasn't back by 10:30 she would release the picture so, I had to hurry.

There he was, sitting on his car hood smiling at me. I faked a smile and looked down.

"Hey Mel, where is your stuff do you need a hand?" he asked.

"Well, Dani I-"

"Hey, I completely understand if you are nervous-"

"No it's not that I just-"

"I'm here and I will keep you safe no matter what-"

"Dani I can't go! This can't happen! Whatever you think we can be it won't work! You already said it! You have a girlfriend! I am your ex, forget about me! Please just pretend I never existed!" I yelled

"I won't Mel, I could never-"

"You have to. Goodbye Dani" I said and gave him the last kiss on the cheek he would ever receive from me.

"Mel wait. I-"

I never heard the rest of what he said because I ran back to my house.

My mom dropped me off at the restaurant and I got out.

"I will back at 5 to pick you up, but don't get used to it once you get enough money you will be taking the bus" she explained.

I nodded and walked inside.

"Ah, you must be Megan. I'm Carl your boss, you will be just cleaning the bathrooms today. Here throw this on" he threw me a red shirt that had DQ sewn onto it "supplies are in the back. Ask Jess if you need anything."

"It's Melody and ok" I responded and he walked away.

I made my towards the back.

"Hey Melody. I'm Jess" she said and smiled.

"Hi" I responded.

I guess this is how my summer will go.
