Melody's pov

Miles looked down at me with anger in his eyes. His face was growing redder by the moment. He wrapped his large hands around my throat and slowly started to lift me off the ground.

"Miles...please...I can't breath" I choked.

"My mother is dead because of you!" he screamed in my face.

"She is dead... hurting me... won't bring her back" I cried.

"Stop talking!" he yelled.

He released his hands from my throat and dropped me on the coach. Just when I thought it was over he started to punch me in the face. I counted four times before everything went black.

As I opened my eyes I instantly felt the pain all over my body. It was apparent that he had continued punching me in the face and had kicked or punched me in the ribs as well.

I also looked around the room and realized I was in my old room. I tried to get up but I was handcuffed to my old, metal bed frame. I started to panic because it was the same situation as before.

All of a sudden the door opened and Miles crept into the room.

"Melody, are you awake?" Miles whispered.

I tried not to make a sound but I knew he could sense my presence.

"I know you're awake and that's why I want to say I'm really sorry. For everything. You're my sister and I beated you up. I choked you. I basically tried to kill you" Miles said.

"I accept your apology. Now can you release me" I asked.

"I can't go to prison. I'm only 18. If I let you go you'll go to the police" he cried.

"I won't I promise. You're right you're only 18 you have a whole life ahead of you. I wouldn't ruin your whole life. Just trust me please" I pleaded.

"Melody I just tried to kill you I can't trust you" he said.

"How about I call my friend Anna who lives in Portland? She can pick me up and I won't ever speak of this again to anyone. You could even go with us to make sure we don't go to the police" I promised.

All I wanted was for him to buy into this so I could get away from him as soon as possible.

"Where's your phone?" he asked.

"In the front pocket of my black backpack" I told him.

He walked over to the pile of my bags in the corner. He got the phone out of the bag and handed it to me. I pulled up my contacts, but before I could hit Anna's Miles stopped me.

"Put it on speaker" he interjected.

"I will" I mumbled.

I hit call and the phone started to ring. After the third ring she answered.

"Hey girly" she said in a cheery voice.

"Hi. Um do you think you could pick my brother and I up from my house?" I asked.

"Where do you need me to bring you guys" she asked.

"Um I don't know maybe Starbucks. We could all eat together and stuff" I said, trying to manage the most steady voice I could.

"Ok, text me the address and then I'll be on my way"

"Thanks, see you then" I said waiting for her to hang up.

"Wait Mel, are you ok?" she asked. I knew that question was coming, yet still I didn't want to answer it.

"Yeah I'm just really anxious to see you" I said and Miles grabbed the phone to hang up.
