CHAPTER 15 - Promise Me

"Honey, have you double checked your things? Is your passport with you? Don't forget to wear some comfy clothes! Make sure to bring along your coat!" His mother started nagging early in the morning. His noon flight will depart in a few hours. They were getting ready to drive him to the airport.

Jungkook was emotionally frustrated as he had to leave the most precious person behind and started off alone in a foreign country. She had just finished dressing and was about to exit the room but Jungkook hold onto her. He gave her a hug by pulling her back towards his chest. He rested his head on her shoulder embracing her as tight as he could if that even possible anymore. He crashed her body with his sturdy arm to feel her warmth and essence that he will certainly be missing no one knows for how long.

"Promise me something, Jiwon," he whispered softly with eyes close.

"Promise?"

"Mhm...promise me that you will always miss me, promise me that you will always wait for me, promise me that you will always trust me, promise me that you will always rely on me and promise me to always try to love me," he pleaded her with promises to keep.

She was about to nod her head but hearing the last word from him made her contemplate her decision. 'Love. She isn't sure about that. Because as long as it takes, that is the last thing she wishes to do.'

"Please, Jiwon-shi...promise me?" he turned her facing him. He cupped her cheeks with light tears escaping his dewy eyes. He was crying. Yes. His heart was breaking. He couldn't control it any longer. He wanted her to notice his feelings.

She was flabbergasted by his red eyes. 'Why is he like this?' She started to feel weak by her sight. He had always been cheerful and jolly. He had been a teaser with irritating laughter. But the person in front of her at the moment was totally different. He was crying. She wanted to shake her head to disagree but her heart wouldn't let her. She ended up nodding as a sign of promise.

"Thank you, Jiwon-ah," he smiled with satisfaction and leaned his head closer to hers, nose to nose. She could feel his warm breathe on her lips. Within a second, he kissed her beautiful and delicate lips. Engulfing her in his emotions. He deepened the kiss as his arm wrapped her tighter. He moved his hand to her back pulling her closer. She wanted to push him away. She wanted to escape the kiss. She wanted to avoid from falling for him. Her heart wouldn't cooperate with her brain.

Her heart yearned for him. She was absorbed by the warm sensation coming from him. His touches were tender yet enchanting. Little did she know, she was responding to his kisses which making him more eager. They were both drowned in each other's embrace. Not wanting to let go.

However, their wonderful moment was distracted by the sudden knock on the door. They were both startled and immediately break free from the love chain. His eyes never left her beautiful face while she averted his gazed with regret. She regretted for not suppressing herself. The sentiments overcontrol her.

"Thank you, wifey," his lips curved into a frank and meaningful smile. He gave her a final pecked on the lips, gently but sincerely. They walked out of the room with roller coaster of emotions within their soul, simply getting harder to let go.

The car ride to the airport was filled with silence. They were immersed by their own thoughts and feelings. The driver was paying attention to the road, Mr. Jeon never left his smartphone, Mrs. Jeon was with her magazine, Jungkook's heart was moaning deep inside and Jiwon's mind was totally blank. Yet, their hands were neatly entangled as Jungkook tried to gain strength from her. She was facing the window all along never left a glance on him.

They arrived at the airport. He was busy settling the procedures before departing. They wait patiently for the calling. How he wished the flight was stranded or his ticket went missing or he missed his flight or his seat was mistakenly taken by others or whatever only so that he could stay. He glimpsed at Jiwon back and forth not wanting to let his happiness withered.

Finally, the terrifying announcement was heard and it kept on repeating, making him more infuriated. His father hugged him tight giving a pat on the back with few words of advice. His mother started weeping and embrace him even tighter not wanting to let go. Surprisingly, her nagging never left her mouth. He returned back the hug with ensuring words to keep her calm. Then, she let go and cried on Mr. Jeon.

He hardly walked towards Jiwon who was standing still at her pace.

"I guess this is it?" she uttered. Her voice was ringing in his ears.

"Yup! ..." he wanted to say a few more words to her but there was a sudden lump in his throat. The more he looked at her, the more pain he felt. He embraced her in an instance. He tried to hold back his tears so hard as he did not want to show his weaknesses anymore. "Remember to keep your promises, Jiwon-ah," he reminded her while letting go of the hug.

She flashed him a smile and that smile took his breath away. He captured that image into his heart gallery. Her beautiful yet calming smile and her innocent eyes. He will miss them really bad. He gave her a last hug, closing his eyes to feel her for the last time and heavily parted.

"It's time for me to go."

"Right."

"I'm gonna miss you, wifey."

"Well, take care."

He nodded. And lifted his head to bid everyone a farewell. "Goodbye, everyone. Stay healthy and keep in touch. See you guys later," most of his words were specially directed to Jiwon without her knowing. With that he walked away. However, he turned around back to see her for the last time, which she was already at a distance from him. She smiled brightly and waved her hand at him only to ease him.

Though he is officially her husband, she knows within her heart that he is too good for her. He deserved more than what she can ever be and that person will never be her, pathetic Kim Jiwon. It is best for her to stop right now before her feelings gets deeper and she wouldn't be able to restrain it. She doesn't want to ruin his precious life. The person who had help her to live a life towards her dream and future. And sadly, her future doesn't involve him. 'I'm sorry, Jeon Jungkook. I can't keep the promises.'
