Chapter Twenty One

Ya bitch is tired but can't sleep so here's an update. Merry Christmas.

I woke up the next morning feeling warmer than usual. I cracked open an eye and was shocked to see the sight before me. I guess we fell asleep next to each other on his bed because Winnie's back was flush against my chest. His chest rose and fell with each breath he took. Little sighs escaped his parted lips every so often. His hair was spread out around his head, which was using my arm as a pillow.

I felt Winnie turn around and snuggle closer to me, his head resting against my chest. I cracked a lopsided smile and started to rub his back gently so he wouldn't wake up. He sighed in his sleep and unconsciously put an arm around my midsection.

I was about to slip my hand under his shirt but stopped myself. It was unfair for me to do this to him in his sleep. I carefully removed his arm from my middle and got up, trying not to disturb him. He was probably exhausted.

Since when did you ever care about what other people felt? I thought.

...Since I got a friend.

I smiled to myself and decided to get dressed after looking at the clock and seeing it was past eight. I dug through my bag and pulled out a change of clothes. I quickly put on my jeans but hesitated when I had to take off my shirt. Sometimes my feathers got turned the wrong way if I took my shirt off too quickly, like when you rub a cat the wrong way.

I carefully peeled off my shirt and shook out my wings. They tend to get stiff if I keep them in one position for too long. As I was about to put my shirt on, I felt a hand stroke my left wing. I froze and turned around.

Winnie was transfixed on my wing. He gently caressed a feather before letting go. He then glanced up at me and noticed me staring at him.

"S-sorry! I didn't mean to make you upset or uncomfortable! I—"

"No, it's okay. It's just that no one has ever done that before is all. Hell, I don't even do that."

Winnie was about to reply when I heard footsteps coming towards the door. I opened my mouth to warn Winnie, but the door opened. Luckily Winnie was a fast thinker. He ran over to the door and stopped it from opening any wider, hiding all of his body except his head.

"Mom! Um, we're uh, getting dressed right now! You can't come in," he said in a hurry. His mom said something, causing Winnie's ears to become red and start shaking his head. His mom said something else again, this time Winnie nodded. He closed the door and leaned against it.

"We should probably go downstairs. Mom says she made breakfast," Winnie said as he walked over to his closet, ears still red. He pulled out a change of clothes and turned around. I turned around and quickly but carefully pulled my shirt over my head. I waited for Winnie to finish getting dressed before following him downstairs.

A smell foreign to me greeted us as we stepped into the kitchen. Winnie's eyes lit up as he saw what was placed on the table.

"Waffles!" he said excitedly, quickly pulling out a chair and sitting down. I did the same and sat down to his left.

Sam placed two plates in front of us saying, "Eat as much as you like; I've made plenty." She turned to Winnie and said, "Your father is already at work. I'll have to leave soon too. Have fun while I'm gone!"

Winnie nodded and turned his attention back to the food laid out in front of him. There was strawberries, bananas, blueberries, and apples, with whipped cream, sugar and syrup to go on top. In addition, Sam made bacon and scrambled eggs.

As soon as Sam went back to the kitchen, Winnie leaned over and whispered, "She only made all this because she wants to make a good impression on you. She almost never makes waffles unless it's a special occasion."

I exhaled through my nose as my mouth turned up in a smile and decorated my waffles with strawberries and sugar, Winnie decorating his with bananas and whipped cream. Sam came back out and placed two glasses of apple juice in front of us. I thanked her and took a sip.

My eyes widened as I felt a sharp pain pierce my body. My throat was in flames. I set the glass down and started coughing. Out of the corner of my eye, I saw Sam inhale sharply before her gaze sharpened. Winnie started to pat my back, trying to be of some assistance. I gasped as the pain slowly subsided.

Holy water. That bitch gave me holy water.

Domi had told me about the dangers of holy water when I first became a demon. Apparently, just a milliliter could leave second-degree burns on your skin. I didn't even want to think about what my throat looked like.

Sam faked concern and offered to get me some water. I wasn't going to be fooled by that again, so I said I would get it myself (respectfully of course. I didn't want her to know I knew she knew I was a demon) and allowed her to lead me to the kitchen. Once we were out of earshot, she grabbed me by the collar and pulled me close.

"Now you listen here, Ash―if that's even your name. I know you know about Winnie and his ability—in fact, that's probably why you're here. If you're wondering why I don't just go ahead and put you back in hell, it's because I know you don't want to hurt Winnie. You aren't giving off a malicious aura like other demons I've encountered in my life. But if you so much as look at him the wrong way, I will not hesitate to send you back to where you came from," she said as she let go of my collar. She grabbed her purse off the counter to leave when she stopped and turned back around. "Oh, and Ash? You should be thanking me for only putting in a drop this time."

That bitch!!

Chapter twenty one finished! I love Sam, can I just say that really quickly?

Who is your favorite character so far?

Oh, and when Ash first took a sip of the holy water, I couldn't stop laughing. I thought of Viktor's face when he was drinking his beer or whatever when Yuri said he was too embarrassed to talk to Viktor after the finals the year before.

So basically this face:
