Asher's POV
We appeared in the middle of Winnie's room. I pulled away from him and stared into his gorgeous mismatched eyes. I smiled.
Winnie laughed. "What are you smiling for?"
"I'm so glad you're okay. You have no idea how worried I was," I said as I rest my forehead against his and touched our noses.
Winnie smiled and pulled away from me. He sat down at his desk chair and asked, "So are you really human?"
"Only one way to find out," I said as I backed away, still facing him. I pulled off my shirt and smirked when I saw Winnie's blush. I looked over my shoulder and smiled.
"No wings," I said as I did a quick spin for him to see. I turned around to grab my discarded shirt. I smiled as I felt Winnie wrap his arms around me and rest his cheek against my back.
"Good. Now my parents don't have to worry about me hanging out with a demon," he said.
I straightened up and pulled my shirt over my head, making Winnie drop his arms from around me. I placed my hands on his hips and pulled him back towards me, our fronts pressed together. "Or making out with one," I whispered as I bit the shell of his ear. I felt Winnie shiver and smirked.
"Or what? Asher, what have you done to our baby?" Sammy screeched from the doorway. Sam was watching the scene unfold with an amused expression on his face.
I jumped away from Winnie in fear. Winnie blushed as his head whipped over to face his dad. I swallowed nervously at his murderous look. "Um, nothing?"
I ducked as a shoe came flying at my head. "The one thing I can't stand is lying, Ash, especially to my face. If you're going to be dating my son, you better not lie to me again," Sammy said as he glared at me. He then turned to Winnie.
"And you! I want a full explanation later!" He said as Winnie nodded in fear. When he left, Sam poked her head in the doorway.
"Dinner will be ready in about an hour. Ash, do you want to eat with us?"
Still shocked at the fact I wasn't dead, I nodded slowly. Sam grinned and shut the door behind her as he left.
Winnie sat down on his bed. "I can't believe I'm not dead."
I chuckled and sat beside him. "Me too. I guess your dad still doesn't know all the details of our relationship, huh?"
"Yeah, even though he saw us kiss before. Maybe he was still in shock from you bleeding out on our kitchen table. Or the whole 'you're a demon' thing," Winnie said as he tilted his head in thought.
"Maybe. Most likely."
We sat in silence for a moment before Winnie turned to me. "Hey, Ash?"
"Yeah?" I asked as I turned to face him.
Winnie bit his lip and looked down. "Do you, um, remember what that guy said about your wings?"
Of course, I remembered, but I wanted to know what Winnie was going to ask me. I shook my head and pulled him into my lap, his back pressing against my chest. I rested my head on top of his. "No, what did he say?"
"He said that your wings meant you got your soul back. Do you think that's true?"
I turned him around so he was straddling my lap and gently pressed my lips against his, tilting his face up slightly with my thumb. I pulled away from him and said, "Winnie. Ever since I met you, I have been feeling the strangest emotions. I didn't even know what emotion felt like. But now, I'm experiencing the weirdest things. Things like love, and happiness. Anger, too. The desire to protect. Isn't that what a soul does? Doesn't a soul make you feel things you never felt before, even all the bad things?" I asked as I opened my eyes, not realizing they had closed.
Winnie smiled at me. I smiled back and grabbed his hands. "Winnie, do you want to be my boyfriend?"
Winnie reached up and tangled one hand in my hair while the other cupped my cheek. He pulled me down and placed his mouth on mine. I kissed him back and gripped his hips. I licked his bottom lip, wanting to explore his mouth again. Winnie pulled back slightly before whispering, "Yes. I will be your boyfriend."
Smiling, I captured his lips with mine again. Winnie's hands cupped my face as he deepened the kiss. I placed one hand on his back while keeping one hand on his hip. I leaned forward until he was lying on his back. I slipped one hand underneath his shirt as I littered his neck with kisses. I was very disappointed when I saw that all his hickeys disappeared.
Damn you, strange man.
Guess I'll have to replace them.
"Ash―wait. My parents are downstairs," Winnie gasped.
I groaned but got up. His parents are already mad I made out with him, I don't need them seeing his new hickeys, either. I pulled him up and fixed his rumpled shirt. I quickly placed him beside me when I heard a knock at the door.
"Yes?" Winnie called.
"Dinner's ready, you boys come downstairs!" Sammy said.
I smiled and grabbed Winnie's hand. I opened the door and went downstairs. I looked at him as he began to talk about school with his mom and dad like nothing out of the ordinary happened that day. I held his hand under the table and noticed the little grin that slipped onto his face.
Yeah. This is definitely what love feels like.
