Asher's POV
I walked into school on Monday still feeling refreshed (and full) from Friday night. I walked into math, and the pleasant feeling drained from my body as soon as I saw Marcus and Tyler. I began to feel my blood boil as I remembered a part of their conversation at the diner.
"We could use the Freak to get to him, make him do what we want. Tyler, you and I have nearly all our classes with him. Tony, David, and Mike have the classes with him you and I don't. We could all blackmail Ash using the Freak."
I grit my teeth and walked inside, trying to ignore the two. They watched me as I sat down and leaned back in my seat. Marcus turned around and began to whisper to Tyler. Tyler shook his head before whispering back.
I rolled my eyes and grabbed my notebook. Not the one for school (who do you think I am, someone that cares?), the one for my, uh, problem. I took out my phone and scrolled to the first picture I took that day.
I was getting to a part in one of the last books I bought that may be helpful to my problem, but I had to go to school, or so Domi says. I didn't want to leave Winnie alone with Marcus and Tyler, especially not after what I heard them talking about Friday. So I took pictures of the pages before I left the house, and now I am reading them and trying to discretely take notes.
Luckily, no one was sat beside or behind me, or this would look really bad if they looked at my phone.
I had finished my last note when the bell rang to dismiss the first bell. I had found something useful, and I didn't like it, but it was the only potential solution I had found so far, and I was starting to run out of time.

When I walked into biology, Winnie was already working on our project. He had made a list of possible traits that could be passed down from generation to generation. He looked at me and forced a smile before going back to what he was doing.
"What's wrong?"
He shook his head and said he didn't want to talk about it. "And before you ask, no, it has nothing to do with Marcus and Tyler."
I sighed and sat down beside him, deciding not to push it, especially when I don't know him that well. "What traits do you have so far?"
"Skin color, eye shape, and body texture," he said, reading off the list he had made.
"Body texture?"
"Like slimy or scaly."
I nodded and looked over at Mr. Dun who was writing something on the board at the front of the classroom.
Students,
You will only have this class to work on your projects.
You must work on your projects in your own time after that. We'll have to work on our own time, huh? I wonder if I should bring it up then. I hope he doesn't react too badly.
"How many did we need?" Winnie asked, snapping me out of thoughts.
"Five. How about we also have the number of antenna and..." I trailed off. Winnie looked over at the drawings he had in front of us and pointed at something.
"How about we have body shape?"
"Body shape?"
"Yeah, if it looks like a fat blob," he pointed at his, "or if it looks like a human with really long features."
I mentally cringed as I looked at the picture. It was of a demon. It had long arms that scraped along the ground, bony arms that looked like twigs but could easily snap you in half, and long legs that ended in claw-like feet. The face was elongated, like a ram skull, and had sharp teeth.
"Yeah, sure."
Winnie nodded and pulled out a piece of paper. "These are the requirements Mr. Dun gave us. Do you want me to start working on the electronic part of the assignment while you work on the drawing part?"
"Yeah, I'll draw, but how are you going to work on the electronic part without a computer?"
Winnie shrugged. "I can begin to plan out the slides, like what to say on each one and where certain pictures could go."
I nodded and began to sketch Winnie's alien for the final drawing. We worked in silence until the bell rang so we could go home. Winnie looked over at the board for the first time that day and looked back over at me. "Do you want to come over to my house on Friday and work on it? The project, I mean."
I blinked at him and opened my mouth to answer when he started talking again. "Or not, if you don't want to. We could go to the library or something."
"No, no, your house is fine. I was about to ask you when you wanted to work on it. It felt like you read my mind is all," I answered hurriedly. Then. I would tell him then.
Winnie smiled and nodded. "Okay."
"See you tomorrow, Winnie."
"Bye, Ash."

Sorry, this chapter was so bad, it's kind of a filler, but I PROMISE things will be picking up soon. Like, next chapter soon ;)
I'm going to go ahead and update this story because I have no idea if I'm going to be able to update on Wednesday. Luckily, Hurricane Florence veered out of our path so we didn't get hit, but we still missed FOUR days of school. So I'm most likely going to have a bunch of classes trying to catch up. But who knows? I might update Wednesday, I might not. But here you go for now! :)
