Asher's POV

Man do I look like shit, I thought as I ran my hand across my face. There were dark bags under my eyes, most likely from lack of sleep. I didn't bother going home last night; instead, I spent the night in a shady motel. It wouldn't have been so bad if the people above me weren't having loud sex all night long.

I turned on the water and splashed it on my face, hoping to make me look less dead. As I did so, I couldn't help but think back to yesterday's events.

I groaned. Why oh why did I do that? Now Winnie's not talking to me and he probably hates me. To make matters worse, I have science with him in two minutes, I thought as I did my best to clean my face. I blindly reached for a paper towel, but a hand placed one inside of mine.

"Thanks," I said without looking at the person.

"No problem, Asher."

I froze as my blood ran cold and looked up. I made eye contact with Baxter through the mirror.

"Well, I shouldn't say 'no problem' because, well, we're about to have ourselves a little problem."

Baxter reached for me, but luckily I saw him coming and quickly moved out of the way. I started to run for the door, but Baxter beat me to it. "Oh, come on, Asher! You're not afraid of a little fight, are you?"

I didn't respond and glared at him. He smiled and pulled out a blade. He swung it towards my neck. I jumped back and hit the wall.

Curse tiny school bathrooms!

Baxter swung again. I ducked and rammed my shoulder into his stomach. He dropped the blade as we both fell to the floor with a grunt. I scrambled off of him and reached for the knife. Baxter grabbed my ankle and pulled me back. He flipped me over and got on top of me. He raised his fist to punch me, but I pushed him off. Baxter hit the urinal and broke it, making a piece crash to the floor.

I scurried to the knife and grabbed it just as Baxter grabbed the back of my shirt. I swung my arm around and nicked him on the cheek. I twirled the knife into a defensive position as he reached up and felt his cheek. Baxter's eyes darkened to black when he noticed his fingers came back bloody. He turned to me and smirked when he saw my position.

"Oh come on. Did you really think I only had the one knife?" he asked as he pulled out two more. I grit my teeth and waited for him to move. Baxter charged at me. I moved to the side but didn't have time to move as he changed direction at the last second. I ended up moving right on his knife.

A searing pain made its way throughout my body as Baxter let go of the knife. I pulled the knife out of my stomach and fell to the floor. Baxter crouched down next to where I was curled into the fetal position. "Do you feel that, Asher? That's what holy water feels like as it pumps through your veins. Have fun dying. I've been waiting to get rid of you ever since you showed up to Hell," he said casually over his shoulder as he walked out of the bathroom.

I did my best to glare at him but failed when the pain came back even worse than before. My breaths started to come in little pants. I looked down at my stomach and groaned in pain when I saw the amount of blood pouring out of my body. I tried to get up but fell back on the floor, landing on my wound. I screamed in pain and laid on the floor panting. I felt my eyelids get heavier and heavier.

I shook my head to force myself to wake up and reached for my phone in my back pocket. I grit my teeth and did my best to ignore the pain as I leaned against the wall. I pushed my hand against my bleeding stomach and shakily unlocked my phone. I quickly dialed Winnie's number.

"Pick up, pick up," I begged out loud. I drew in a shaky breath as the phone clicked.

"Hello?"

"Winnie? I need you to come to the bathroom in the math hallway."

"Ash? Are you okay? What happened?" Winnie panicked.

"I'm uh, not going to class, and I don't think you can either," I panted as I looked back down at the blood rushing past my fingers. "Do you know how to drive?"

"Yeah, but why? Do you need to go to the hospital?"

"No, they can't do anything for me." I paused to catch my breath. "I've been stabbed and I need you to help me out of the school."

"WHAT? Ohmygosh Ash, why didn't you start by saying that?! I'm on my way, stay awake!" Winnie yelled into the phone before hanging up.

I leaned my head against the wall and closed my eyes. I opened them and looked over as the door opened. Winnie's eyes bugged out of his head as he gagged a little. He rushed over to me and crouched down. "Who did this to you? Nevermind, uh, what should I do?"

I gestured for him to come closer. I put my arm around his shoulder. Winnie seemed to understand and grabbed my wrist. He gently wrapped his other arm around my waist and waited a few seconds before starting to stand. A pained noise escaped past my lips as I got on my feet. I still had to rely heavily on Winnie to walk.

Winnie blew out a breath. "Thankfully everyone is in class, we should be good to walk out the doors. Where are your keys?"

"Front left pocket," I ground out as we walked out the doors to the school.

Winnie reached into my pocket and took the keys, unlocking the passenger door and helping me get in. I groaned as I sat down. Winnie ran around to the driver's side and started the car. He quickly got on the road and started to drive to his house. I leaned back and began panting again, causing Winnie to look over at me quickly.

"Don't worry, Ash. You'll be fine. My mom's a surgeon. She'll know what to do," he said quietly. I knew he was trying to reassure me, but it sounded more like he was trying to reassure himself.

Soon we pulled into his driveway. Winnie ran around to my side and helped me out. He knocked on his door with his foot. I started to fall, but Winnie caught me before I could. He pulled my arm tighter around his shoulders. I didn't bother trying to stand anymore.

Sam opened the door and let out a loud gasp when she saw us. She quickly pulled us inside as she called for Sammy to come help. Winnie's dad quickly mimicked Winnie's action on my other side and helped me to the kitchen table. Sam spoke to Winnie before he nodded and ran off, coming back with gauze and vodka not a minute later. Sam had put on gloves and grabbed a pair of scissors.

Suddenly, I felt something soft and warm against my mouth. Opening my eyes which had fallen shut, I saw Winnie's eyes shut. His hand was gripping mine tightly. The sweet taste of strawberries and sugar I had craved for again seeped into my mouth. I started to kiss him back when he pulled away.

"Please be okay."

I couldn't respond. I had blacked out.
