Dylan wasn't the only one who had noticed the positive changes going on. The crew had been seeing it for the past week, at least.
"So, what's the big deal?" Dave asked Jason.
"Well, even Twister knows it, boss. You guys were in perfect sync out there. You know good feelings are contagious."
"Really? You think it's that strong?"
"Yeah, boss. I think this ranch is going to be number one this year if we just get someone good for the reining competition."
"I know, but it looks like we'll need to compete individually again. Maybe next year, we'll compete as a ranch."
Meanwhile, Alisha and Kimberly had finished Dave Jr's room.
"It's perfect, Alisha. Everything about it is. How did you find painters that were this skilled? They're professional artists."
"I found out about them through the hardware store. And yeah, they're fantastic. I told myself that I would make these rooms perfect, even if it killed me. Based on the prison cells that the rooms were, it had to be done."
"I think you succeeded," Kimberly told her.
Alisha smiled.
"Not until I see those little faces light up on Liliana and Dave Jr....you don't think I'm spoiling them, right?"
"Not at all. Those kids have never really had anything, so they deserve every bit of this," Kimberly reassured her.
With the rooms done, the doorbell rang. It was the pizza delivery guy. Alisha tossed him a $20 tip when the guy uttered some words she'd never forget.
"Thanks a lot, Mrs. Martin. Take care now!"
He walked away before Alisha could correct him.
"Has a nice ring to it, huh?" Kimberly asked.
Alisha blushed, but shrugged it off.
"I can't put myself through that," she replied.
Kimberly was going to ask what she meant, but Alisha called for the guys to warn them they were coming down with dinner.
Downstairs, Dave whipped out a $50 bill and tried handing it to Alisha. It was about time he paid for something, but she ignored it. While the guys dug into their dinner, Alisha went to finish up her wash. Dave followed, with his money in hand. To avoid being involved, Kimberly approached her husband with a few slices.
"Here you go, sweetie."
Dylan thanked her kindly when Dave tried giving Alisha the money again. Even James was trying to keep the guys quiet, so they could hear.
"Put that away, Dave. You know dinner is my responsibility, plus I like doing these things from the goodness of my heart."
"You've been spending money on us left and right, Alisha. I think it's about time that I pay for something."
"You don't have to, Dave."
"But I want to. You have done so much as it is. Okay? I'm not asking for your permission. I am paying because I said so."
