The duets were kicked off with Dylan and Kimberly. Despite Dylan's reluctance, he and Kimberly worked well together. Even Alisha was impressed, as her and Dave returned from getting some water.
"They're pretty damn good."
"They are, but so are we," Dave told her.
"What do you mean?" Alisha asked, worried about having to sing again.
"It wasn't me," Dave told her.
Kimberly and Dylan walked off the stage to cheering, and it was obvious who conjured up the plan.
"Good luck beating that," Kimberly mentioned with a big smile.
"You did it once, Alisha, but with me up there with you, it'll be even easier. Let's knock this out of the park."
Alisha took his hand and followed Dave up the stage. The guys cheered, along with Ruth and a few other acquaintances who knew Dave.
Their song began. It was "I Run to You" by Lady Antebellum.
Based on Alisha's love for the song, she knew it was a sign....a sign that she was supposed to be there. It just felt right, and based on their performance, it couldn't have been better.
"My God, they're amazing, Kim," Dylan reacted.
Kimberly knew it, even though she didn't want to accept it.
"We're gonna freakin lose."
"Lose what?" Dylan responded.
"The couples contest I signed up for....but I had no idea Alisha was going to do this well. Shit."
Dave and Alisha walked off the stage to a rounding ovation, which went on long enough for everyone to stand. Kimberly and Dylan remained silent until Alisha sat next to them.
Up next was Larry's boys. They sang "Beer for My Horses." They were okay, but nothing special. However, when they walked off, the group eyed Alisha, or at least in her direction. Dave took notice, despite Alisha talking to Kimberly, being too distracted to notice Larry and two of his guys standing beside her. To get her attention, the three of them pulled up chairs to their small table of four.
"What do you want, Larry?" Dave asked.
"Relax, Martin. We just want to introduce ourselves to the cutie you're with," Larry said.
Alisha turned around. At first glance, the best way for her to describe Larry was big. Not as in fat, but as in strong. He was as muscular as a linebacker, with a neck as thick as his clean-shaven face and head under his cowboy hat. Still, there was something she didn't like about him.
"The name's Alisha."
"Hi, Alisha. I'm Larry McElroy," he said, not bothering with a handshake.
It was like he was too good for it.
"And to my left is Billy. On my right is Leroy."
"Hi, boys," Alisha said kindly enough.
His guys were just like cronies, much like Jesse and Jason were to Dave, except even less manly.
