"You three are heading straight out to a high priority mission in Westopolis. Our agents there say there's been a massive outbreak of robots – possibly from Eggman, but they are machined differently," The commander told the three Mobians, "We've never seen any like this before."

"Westopolis?"

"Near the outskirts. There have been hundreds of reports in the last hour." The commander muttered, "All of our forces require reinforcements. The best option is to send you three. I need you to quickly resolve this problem before anyone gets hurt."

"Easy. We'll hit them hard and be done in the hour." Rouge spoke, grinning.

"I expect you will." The commander nodded.

"Is there anything else we should know?" Rouge asked.

The commander shook his head, "No. So far, not even Eggman has turned up, so be on your guard. He could be anywhere." The three nodded before they disappeared in another flash.

Dr Eggman's Lair

"So, what's been happening with you lately?" Manic asked as they looked around the doctor's lair. Surprisingly, nothing had arrived to attack them yet, which definitely confused the blue hedgehog.

"Oh, you know, this and that." Sonic answered, "Had three major Eggman attacks, including one that turned Jayde evil."

"Turned her evil?" Manic asked, clearly confused.

Sonic glanced around the corner before looking back at his brother, "She's a Protector for one of the Seven Shards – Tails can tell you more about them – but one of the weaknesses, is that if she is surrounded by negative Chaos energy, another being rises within her and she destroys everything in her path."

"Sounds dark for a happy dudette like her." Manic spoke, twisting the cuffs on his gloves a bit, "How did you get her back?"

Sonic chuckled a bit as they continued walking around the premises, "Let's just say Shadow had to share his energy with her."

"So, no romantic kiss?"

The blue hedgehog snickered a bit, "No really the most of romantic ways. Just add the fact that he was being strangled against the floor."

Manic grimaced slightly, "Nice."

Sonic grinned, "Follow me." The blue blur jumped up, hopping from platform to platform until he reached the top of the doctor's lair. Manic flew up on his hover board and landed beside him, "There's always a way in at the top of his lair."

"So, how's things with you and Pinky?" the green hedgehog grinned as his older brother tripped up on air.

"Nothing?" he answered, sounding more like a question than a reply, "We're just friends."

"Dude, stop friendzoing yourself."

"I'm not! Ames and I are best friends." Sonic muttered.

Manic hummed, "Whatever you say, bro." he snickered, "The vents?" Sonic nodded and they both landed inside the lair, still not a single security alarm going off.

Sonic was more confused than ever now. Not once has he ever come onto Eggman's premises and not had fight some of the Badniks roaming around. By now, there should be alarms, robots, a flash of blue. But nothing. Not even the voice of Eggman.

Where was he?

"Are you sure we're in the right lair?" Manic asked, "Or is he just given up on fighting you?"
