Comet's POV

"So I got your note." Comet mentioned. Devin grinned his stupid grin. "I find your offer interesting." His grin widened.

"I was hoping you would." Devin placed his hand on her arm. "I noticed you the moment you arrived. All the girls here are brown dwarfs compared to you. You're a red giant." His smile faded for a second. "Sorry, that probably didn't make any sense."

"It did though." Comet replied. "A red giant is the brightest a star can ever be. A brown dwarf is the darkest because a brown dwarf is dead." She smiled. "That's nowhere near the weirdest compliment I've ever received."

Devin laughed deeply. "Few people here understand my sense of humor. I'm a jock, which my friends say attracts the girls, but I'm also a nerd. That's what usually drives girls away."

"Well I personally like guys who understand the way things work in the world. Muscles are fine but brains are what make you a person." Comet smiles gently.

"That's what our parents always told us on The Forgotten Planet.  Whenever we were upset or sad or had just gotten a new part. Mom would say, 'You have a brain. That makes you a person. No matter what anyone might say, just remember that you're a person.'" Comet stares at the Grey spots on the wall. "I think that was the only thing she ever said to us that she meant."

Devin wrapped his arms around Comet and gave her a hug. She slowly hugged him back. Devin sighed. "I don't understand entirely what you had to endure on that planet. Or what you went through at the hands of your parents and other villains. All I can say is that I understand what you feel. I too have needed to be reminded that I'm a person."

Comet looked at him in shock. "You? But you're a hero! What could possibly make you think you weren't a person?"

"Novell hates us. Me and all my friends." Devin shook his head. "I don't know why. She just has always taken every advantage to get rid of us." He leaned in towards Comet's ear. "I'm actually scared for her to become leader." Comet nodded.

"I don't like Novell either." Comet grinned. "She has terrible taste in clothing, and that dead animal fur on her head that she calls hair is atrocious !" Devin burst out laughing.

"That's the most accurate description of Novell's hair I've ever heard!" He continued laughing for a few more seconds before stopping to catch his breath. "Whew." He breathed. "I haven't laughed that hard in awhile."

Comet smiled as Devin started talking about the time Novell had tried to get the heroes arrested for jaywalking. Comet felt something deep in her chest. Something she hadn't felt for a long time. It made her head light and her face easily curve into a smile.

"Emotions are a curse of the normal population. Yet, sadly, Thanos never perfected his art of getting rid of that specific quirk. So you're going to have to learn to not feel things Come'. Do you understand?"

"Yes Mother. I understand."

"Good darling."

Comet shook her head and blinked her eyes. No. She didn't understand. All she knew was that she loved this feeling. It grew the more she was around Devin. She had felt tingling s if it when she was with Meteor, and Universal, and Aster, and Korey. Even around Mom. Comets sensors buzzed. She knew what this was!

This was what LOVE felt like.
