Chapter 24

A loud noise woke a man for sleep, sitting up he looked at his phone to find someone was calling him, picking it up the person stopped calling him. The man grumbled and went to check who was calling him only for him to receive a text.

Meet me in my office now!

Sighing the man pushed himself up from his desk and stumbled to his bathroom, quickly washing his face in the sink and checking himself in the mirror, the man found he looked like a mess he would have to shower when he got back to his room. That's if he wasn't sent out again, not after he just got back from his last mission.

After running a hand through his hair, the man turned and picked up the deodorant so he didn't smell like shit when he left. Walking out of his bathroom and out of his room, he locked the door behind him as he walked down the hall. Glancing at his phone he realised it was only five in the morning. 'Why the hell can't she let me sleep',  the man thought as he put his phone away, he had got back only two hours ago, he was meant to be filling out reports before finding he had fallen asleep at his desk.

He passed a few of their younger members as he walked along, they gave him side glances and some stopped to let him past. He was thankful the younger ones didn't bother him, it meant he could get to the office faster and get some proper sleep sooner. Once he reached the office he didn't even bother knocking on the door he just barged in. The women sitting behind the desk looked up at him, "alright Jill what do you want?" he asked as he fell into the chair in front of the desk.

"Chris, sorry to wake you. I know you just got back from a B.O.W pick up", Jill said as she closed what she was working on and picked up a file and handed it to him. "But I need to talk to you about this one", Jill explained as Chris opened the file.

Chris skim read the documents that were inside, the documents were about experiments to merge technology with the human body, there was a newspaper article where the company 'Blue Fox' had created a working leg and arms for soldiers, but the newspaper highlighted that it was too expensive for anyone to buy. "This is about technology, not bioweapons" Chris stated as he flicked through the documents.

"It's not just technology", Jill told him, "they've been known to use bio substances as well, to make sure the technology is accepted by the body".

Chris moved the documents and found three subject documents with pictures attached to them, one showed a 65-year-old man the document said his name was Kevin, he was said to have died during an experiment. Another was a 23-year old woman called Lucy who died the same way. The last was a 10-year old kid with no name and no record of death or being alive.

"So, what happened?" Chris asked as he looked at the pictures that were behind the subject sheets.

"The company Blue Fox, they went out of business in 2007. A whistleblower brought the whole company down after exposing they were doing unlawful and dangerous experiments. They were trying to test out a machine they called 'XN-2783', meant to allow people to read others minds", Jill explained. "They tested on three people, two died and the third was never found. The whistleblower said he was giving the boy a chance by never revealing his name to anyone and hiding evidence of him, from blood samples to documented names. He said he managed to get the kid back to his parents before they could take him away, the parents took him home and he was soon fired from Blue Fox for that action. He was later charged for what he did when he worked for Blue Fox, as well as being charged with obstructing justice by never telling them where the third subject went".

"The whistleblower still around?" Chris asked looking up at Jill, she shook her head, "he killed himself in prison not long after he was sentenced, his note said he couldn't live with himself because of what they did to that kid".
