----------------------------------------------------------------

I awoke what I am thinking was a couple of hours later from shouting outside my door. I opened my eyes groggily and shifted slightly in my bed but didn’t get up.

“I don’t care if she’s asleep I just need to see her!” I heard Lance yell.

I groaned and shut my eyes again. What did he want from me now?

“She’s resting! Just let her have a few hours to unwind and she’ll see you tonight!” Antoinette yelled. Gee, for a tiny girl she sure did have a big voice.

“Please, I won’t wake her. I just need to make sure she’s alright.” Lance said in a defeated tone.

It was silent outside my door until I heard the door handle slowly turn. I kept my eyes closed pretending that I was still asleep so I didn’t have to deal with him now.

I heard footsteps approach my bed and stop beside me. I felt the bed dip beside me as Lance sat down. One hand gently touched my forehead and whilst the other held my hand.

“She doesn’t have fever which is good thing.” He commented.

“She’s not ill in that sense; she’s just over-tired.” Amour told him.

He took his hand away from my forehead and moved it to my hand that was already one hand in order to grip my hand tightly.

“I’m not surprised; it must have been a rough few days for her.” Lance said.

“Yes and your mood swings haven’t helped.” Rose huffed.

I heard Lance sigh.

“It’s complicated. There’s a reason I try to distance myself from everyone; especially those I care about.” Lance said sadly.

“Will you tell us your reason?” Amour asked gently.

Lance sighed again. “I guess I can trust you enough but don’t tell anyone; especially not Iris because I might lose her.”

“We promise not to tell a soul.” Antoinette said.

“I was eighteen and I had a best friend called Callam. We always had each other’s backs through thick and thin. I met a girl called Acacia and I fell in love. I thought she was the one I was going to marry. I never wanted to be apart from her and I felt so lucky that she had picked me. One day I went to our meeting place as a surprise for her as I was planning to propose that day. However, when I got there I found her kissing Callam. I confronted them about it and they insisted that they couldn’t help themselves and that they were in love. Acacia told me that she never loved me in the first place and was only using me to get to Callam. Looking back I should’ve realised what was happening; it was so obvious. After that day I swore never to let anyone get close to me ever again as it hurt too much when they leave. Then I met Iris and she makes me feel things that I have never felt before; not even with Acacia. The truth is that it scares me to death to know that she is the one and that after this battle that I might lose her.”
