Lance and I rode on the lizard with Heathcliff all day long on the way to the elves and fae territory. I was shattered and the sky was dark and therefore we were in more danger than ever. I turned around so I was sitting facing Lance.
“Is there a problem?” Lance asked.
I shook my head. “No, I’m just wondering how long we have left to travel.”
“Another couple of hours I’m guessing.” Lance shrugged.
I nodded and sighed.
“What’s wrong now?” Lance sighed impatiently.
“I’m just bored of travelling half way round the world.” I sighed.
“Oh, I’m sorry to bore you princess please tell me what I can do to entertain you.” Lance replied him; his voice dripping with sarcasm.
“You could talk to me? You are my loyal companion after all; you might as well tell me about yourself.” I answered him back not deciding to comment on his unnecessary sarcasm.
“I don’t think so.” Lance answered quickly.
“Why not?” I asked.
“Because I don’t want you knowing all my business.”
“Are you always this hostile? I just want to get to know you!” I argued. What was his problem? We’re going to spending every second of the next few days together so we may as well be civil to each other.
“Well, I don’t want to know you so leave me alone!” Lance yelled.
I snapped my mouth shut. I felt the rush of a thousand knives stabbing my chest at his words. I hung my head as I could feel tears threatening to pour out my eyes. I went to turn back around but Lance caught my arm.
“Wait, I’m sorry.” Lance sighed.
“Don’t sweat it.” I answered not looking in his eyes.
I looked at my hands and we were both overcome by an awkward silence.
“I lived in the kingdom from when I was born up until I was seven when my mum died and then Tin took me to live with him. Tin is like my dad and he was much better than my real dad who left us to start another family. I have grown up with Tin and I couldn’t have asked for a better life.”
I looked at Lance in confusion; I thought he didn’t want to tell me anything about himself.
“Stop looking at me like that! You asked me to tell you about myself and I did. So, how about you? What’s your story?” He asked.
My story… I had a feeling that I would bore him to death.
“Well, I grew up in a small town in Yorkshire, England where everybody knows each other. My mum and dad brought me up and made sure I did well in school. I had a really great childhood with my mum and dad and it paid off, I’m getting my novel published and then I’ll have lots of money and I can live in peace.” I told him.
