“What… do… her?” I heard a muffled voice near me. It was as if the voice was really far away and I could only catch the bare minimum of what the person was saying.
“… Didn’t… anything.” I heard another voice reply. This voice was vaguely familiar and I knew whoever it belonged to wouldn’t hurt me.
I tried to open my eyes and sit up but my blood rushed to my head leaving to aching.
“Ouch.” I complained whilst lying back down.
I decided to look around and saw two faces peering down at me, one of them belonged to the man who I met by the stream. He must have brought me here. The other man was much older though, probably late fifties, and he had a gentle smile on his face which was almost masked by a huge, white beard. The old man touched my shoulder in a friendly gesture and smiled at me.
“Take your time, you’ve lost a lot of blood and you will be lacking in energy. You may feel a little light headed.” The old man said.
I nodded slightly and smiled. I knew he wouldn’t hurt me.
“Who are you? Where am I?” I asked weakly.
“I’m sorry, where are my manners? My name is Tin Sparks, Lance brought you to me.” The old man smiled.
“Who is Lance?” I asked.
“I am. Lance Hunter.” The other man who I met by the stream answered me.
“Oh. Do you aim bows at every girl you meet?” I asked sarcastically.
“Why yes, it’s sort of a pick-up trick of mine.” Lance smirked.
“Oh really?” I sighed in annoyance.
“Yes, well it must work since you’re still with me.”
I scowled at him. “Only because you brought me here because I had passed out.”
“I think you’ll find that I saved your life. I could’ve just left you there and then some creature would have smelt your blood and came running thinking you were an easy kill.” Lance growled at me.
“Oh, whatever shall I do to thank you knight in shining armour?” I asked; my voice dripping with sarcasm.
“A kiss should do it.” Lance smirked at me.
I narrowed my eyes at him. “In your dreams.”
“Always.”
Lance winked at me and I rolled my eyes in annoyance. He sure knew how to get me angry. Then it occurred to me. The old man said his name was Tin Sparks; the man who wrote the warning in the book!
“You’re Tin Sparks!” I gasped at him.
The old man laughed. “Yes, I just told you that.”
