The Dark Lands were just like I had expected them to be. They were filled with pitch black darkness that had so much to hide. I could just about see the outline of Skylar as he went down the pathway to our left. I've followed him quickly, preventing myself from being isolated and completely alone.

During the short walk the sickening feeling increased by a thousand. There was definitely something watching me otherwise I wouldn't be so delusional. All of my sense became sharp, it was close I could practically hear the thing hiss. There were sticks set on fire that led us to what appeared as a Palace. Skylar reappeared in front of me before wrapping a hand around my arm. I felt my stomach twist as we materialised inside the very strange building.

"Don't do that!" I pulled my limb away from the Darkness Elemental's grasp to which he just shook his shoulders and strolled inside a narrow room.

"Home, sweet home." Skylar inhaled a chunk dusty of air and went inside. Once again I shadowed his footsteps and kept close by. A loud clattering of metal scared the daylights out of me and I released a noisy screech.

"Aha!" I heard the Prince exclaim before more shuffling sounded. Either it was too dark for me to see or Skylar possessed the ability of a night vision. Probably both. But the point was, he moved like he knew exactly where each object was.

"What?" I breathed getting no reply in return. Footsteps, there more of those. I reached out with my hands trying to feel how small this room actually was, the way the sound was travelling it couldn't be larger than my bedroom.

"I got what we needed, let's go." Skylar informed me in a calm tone, the response came somewhere further in the room so I staggered forward taking miniature steps to prevent getting caught in anything that could have been in my way.

"And what exactly did we need?" I whispered still not seeing a thing in this inferno.

Skylar lifted a very extraordinary dagger that had a carving of the Darkness symbol.
"Crafted from a very fine black diamond, the base carved from the ancient tree of the forgotten fears." There was a significant smile on his pale face, like one holding a memory.

"What is it for?" Skylar met my gaze like he actually forgot my presence and was now staring at me with a whole new set of expressions that switched from confusion to neutral in quicker than I could count.

"The only weapon able to destroy the shadow of fear. This used to be my mother's." He continued, shifting the knife precisely in the tight clasp of his fingers. I examined the weapon that was not only intricately beautiful but also very mysterious.

"So it's a shadow of fear huh?" Even at this point I did not understand much. I didn't even though there were other shadows that had specific names.

"It's one of the rarest of its kind, usually the shadow of fear is defeatable with any element. But this one it's so much more..." Skylar looked at me as if struggling to discover the right word for it.

"Mature." He finished his dark eyebrows drawn in a furrow. I glanced towards the ancient palace before finally declaring the dying question.

"What happened to your mother? I mean I've read a lot of books but not one has ever filled me on-" There is a meaningful snap of twigs just next to my feet.

"Why don't you ask your grandfather?" Skylar growled as lowly as his voice would let him, and that was so low I barely even heard it.

"He is dead." I deadpanned to which Skylar looked unamused.
