Chapter One: Back Home

The U.S. was my home always was and was always going to be, but I spend so much time out of state that I forget what it feels like to be home. Being a Korean American meant that I was both a citizen of my parents native country Korean as well as being a citizen of the United States. This has been a huge factor in everything I have done in my life.

Last year when I was seventeen I was selected to compete in a show called "Produce 101". The show was host to one hundred and one girls all fighting for a place in the top eleven, who would debut as a group. I was extremely to be even considered for a spot and I didn't even imagine winning but somehow I managed to come in eight place and made my debut. A debut is when a group of people put out there first song in the kpop world. To be truthful I never imagined myself as a kpop star, I loved to dance which is what brought me to the show; the singing part was what I was having problems with.

I was one of the younger girls in the group too with only a couple of years of experience trainee wise. But I came from a background where I danced for hours wanting everything to be perfect and I guess that paid off.

Now though that premotions were done and all eleven of us had gone our own way back to our own companies. It felt that this whole thing was finally coming to an end, so I went back to America. Less people recognize me off the streets which was nice and I was able to get a choreographing job from my background.

Now I was working with some of the biggest names in American pop, people knew my name and asked for my help. I loved every second of it being in the background and helping someone make something beautiful.

Recently I have been working with Selena Gomez, well more like her backup dancers, Selena has been in the studio for a long time while I have done more of the dancing. I liked to be on stage and sometimes I was with the other background dancers but other times I liked watching from the sides seeing my work come into focus.

"Five, six, seven, eight" my voice rang through the small room as I counted snapping my fingers watching the group dance.

This group was good, I don't know where they found them but they knew what they were doing and it was fun to coach people who actually knew what was going on. "Alright good, Max can you work with Lisa on that slide move," I said stepping away from the group.

My phone had started to ring and I had to answer it as I was working a couple of different jobs right now. "Hello, Hana here who is calling," I asked excusing myself from the room.

"Ah, Hana hello. I'm a manager from Produce 101 season 2 I was hoping to speak to you about possibly coming to Korea to help with the choreographing" a female voice asked. I paused trying to remember if I remember talk of a season two of the show I competed on.

I owed my carrier to produce 101 and I knew if they ever asked anything from me I would gladly help out. "When would I be needed, for how long, and what exactly will i be doing" i asked. There was no question on whether I would help them or not but I was curious about what I would be doing.

"Well this season we are having guys on the show rather than girls. The dance with be harder and we know the work you have done in America and think you could help them out phenomenally. We would ask you to be here the entire season and help judge with the others that will be coming, at the end we have invited the rest of IOI to come and watch the final show along with a couple of other appearances. There will be other people there as well but we all agreed that it would be best if you joined as well. We would need you in like a month" she said speaking quickly.

I pretended to think about it already knowing what I was going to say but didn't want to sound too energetic. "I would love to, send me the info in an email. I need to finish up a couple of things here and then'll head over" I said glancing back into the dance room.
