Niall's POV
"No! Niall, that's B, not G!" Charlie giggled. I sighed taking my hands off the piano keys,
"I think I'll just stick with guitar." I muttered
"I think that's a good idea." Charlie smirked, and then stuck her tongue out at me.
"If you're so good, play a song." I smirked. It was obviously no challenge for her, but I wanted to hear her voice so bad.
"Okay" She shrugged. Her fingernails silently tapped on the keys while she thought of a song to play. Her back suddenly straightened and she looked towards me and smiled, "This song... I used to sing it with my dad." She looked down at her legs, swinging underneath the piano, "I've never sung it in front of anyone else before..." She looked up at me and gave me a weak smile, "But I'm willing to sing it for you..." she said quietly. I looked at her and smiled, putting my hand on her shoulder,
"I'd love that." while nodding, telling her to play.
Slow down, you crazy child
you're so ambitious for a juvenile
But then if you're so smart, tell me

When she sang the song, everything suddenly made sense. Everything about her... from the day that I had met her.
She wasn't brave enough to play in front of people without her dad. He was the guy next to her, that's what she meant when she said she lost the guy next to her, she lost him. And without him, she had no one to help her. No one to reassure her that everything was alright. No one to be by her side when she needed them.
If she played in front of my, played piano with me, played for me... Was I that person? Did I give her that strength now?
I looked at her and smiled, grabbing her hand with mine and intertwining our fingers.
With my other hand, and tilted her chin up, giving her a reassuring smile. "Charlie that wa-"
A loud crash cut me off. We turner, looking towards the door, our fingers still tangled together.
A box was on the ground, with sheet music spread everywhere. Louis stood at the door frame smiling, "I think they were about to kiss!" he screamed and ran out into the hallway.
Foot steps echoed through the house until everyone was in the room, all with smiles on their faces.
Charlie's POV
I'm sure that my face had flushed to a deep red as I bit down on my lip. Was he about to kiss me? Niall kept taking sideways glances at me, cheeks tinted with pink, but a smile tugging at his lips.
"Well?" Harry said, motioning towards the two of us with his eyebrows raised, making my face a deeper red.
Niall turned to me, putting his hand back under my chin. I figured he would just finish what he was going to say before, but then he leaned closer to me.
His lips were next to my ear, his hot breath on my neck. "I'll always be the guy next to you." he whispered. I smiled and looked him in the eyes, bringing our faces so our noses were touching.
I pressed my lips against his, not caring what the other boys in the room thought. I could feel Niall's lips smile against mine. I wrapped my hands around his neck, hearing the boys whistle and holler in the background. I chuckled and shook my head, ending the kiss. I looked him right in the eyes, "Thank you." I whispered, and he smiled.
At that moment, I knew, it wasn't the stars that made me feel infinite.
It was Niall.
