I Promised You An Army

Fuck.

Elsa had been right in thinking of the hospital as a labyrinth: it was. The only way she and Cas had been able to find their way around was by rushing madly after distracted doctors. It wasn't as if they'd bothered to pay attention to their surroundings.

A stupid move, really.

John would not be impressed.

No? Well, who gives a shit?

Catching sight of another glowing 'exit' sign, Elsa forced herself to focus. There were more pressing matters at hand than her inner turmoil: quite literally. Her hand was clamped tightly around the soft material of someone else's shirt as she attempted to lead a struggling and now hungry vampire out of a hospital full of people (who, thankfully, had all seemed to have vanished).

It was very lucky, she thought, that Benny happened to be her friend.  Otherwise, it was more than likely that she'd already be dead; a blood-soaked shirt and soaring heart rate weren't exactly ideal for surviving an encounter with a vampire.

Another 'exit' sign pointed the duo to yet another white corridor.  This one, however, appeared to be considerably larger than the rest and, like one would expect when a small desolate lane suddenly merged onto a busy highway, was teaming with people.

About a hundred paces ahead, Elsa spotted the exit.

Her grip on Benny's shirt tightened.

"Let go," he growled.

"No."

A large hand clamped around Elsa's shoulder, spinning her swiftly around.  Benny stood at arm's length, his chest heaving despite his lack of need for air, and his lip reddening from the force of which he was biting down on it with a long, opal fang.

"Look at us," Benny rasped.  "They'd never let us leave."

Benny was right.  The two of them looked like they'd either just murdered someone or were just about to: and the dragging, Elsa realised, probably didn't help.  If they were going to leave the hospital, they'd have to look passably normal.

Gently, Elsa loosened her grip on Benny's shirt and then dropped her hand completely.

Benny didn't move.

"Now what?"  This was taking way too long.  Another minute, and there'd either be a homicide, an arrest, or both.  Elsa was in no mood for either of those options.

"Look relaxed," Benny advised, removing his hand from her shoulder as he reached up to pull his cap further over his face.

Elsa raised her eyebrows.

Benny, in turn, made a show of rolling his eyes. Winchesters, he cursed, always being sarcastic at the wrong damn time.

"Fancy a stroll?" Benny invited, offering a stiff arm to Elsa.

Trustingly, she looped her arm through his.

They began to walk.

Each step felt incredibly laboured and painfully slow. Neither person wanted to remain in the hospital for a second longer than necessary, every fibre of their being was screaming to run, just run, but to do so would attract the attention of several visitors and at least four members of staff.
