Thanksgiving

Almost two weeks had passed since Benny had shown up on the doorstep and there had, so far, been no sign or further mention of John Winchester. Not even a whisper on the wind.

The increasing snowfall had only added to the feel of the festive season, as well as giving people hope that school would soon be cancelled. Christmas robins began appearing, or being noticed, everywhere and Christmas trees seemed to be sprouting out of the ground in every single shop.

Though, as Jody had reminded them, Thanksgiving came first, and Bobby insisted on having it as a family.

On the morning of Thanksgiving, Bobby and Jody worked busily in the kitchen. Dean, Sam, Elsa and Benny reminded upstairs for the best part of the morning, only appearing around midday.

Knowing how much this Thanksgiving meant to Bobby (as it was their first as a family) the Winchesters had all secretly agreed to make an effort of dressing up. Sam woke up first and immediately set to work.

At around eleven thirty, all three Winchesters - plus Benny - had assembled in Dean's room.

Sam and Dean were both dressed quite smartly in plain shirts and dark trousers. Neither had chosen to wear a tie but, with much convincing, Dean had persuaded Sam to neaten himself up a bit: by finally letting Dean near him with scissors. Being very careful not to cut too much off, Dean had trimmed Sam's hair by about an inch and then attacked it with a comb. In the end, Sam looked considerably tidier, if not just a little put-out.

Elsa, on the other hand, had gone with a deep red skater dress (to fit the festive season) that fell down just below her knees. She'd then added a pair of black tights and had moved her hair slightly to the side so that a cascade of dark curls fell about her left shoulder.

Benny had tried to escape by donning his usual get up: a worn blue shirt and muddied trousers, but Dean had made him change. He'd ended up with black trousers (to match Sam and Dean) and a deep purple shirt because, as Dean had insisted, 'it had worked for Merlin, so it would work for him.' Though Benny had absolutely no idea what this meant, he decided to just go with it.

When the four of them finally made their way downstairs, Bobby and Jody were both incredibly surprised.

"You lot don't scrub up too bad, do yeh?" Bobby laughed, looking between them, "Stay there, I'm getting the camera."

Benny attempted to slip away into the kitchen to help Jody, but Bobby wasn't having any of it. Instead, he called Jody into the living room - who brought Boo with her - and set up the camera on a timer. Quickly moving everyone into place, Bobby then joined the five people on the other side of the room and smiled for the photograph.

Once it was taken, Bobby allowed the others to carry on with whatever they'd been doing before which, in the case of the four youngsters, was absolutely nothing.

The Novak household was in complete chaos.

The kitchen was littered with numerous pots and pans, most of which were piled unstably on top of one another. The sink was overflowing with dirty dishes and the water that Lucifer had run to clear them up had ended up having way too much washing-up liquid.

In addition to that, Mrs Novak had been called out to work in an emergency, meaning that Chuck, her husband, had been left in charge of the cooking. With the help of his eldest child and only daughter, Anna, he'd only just escaped burning the turkey but had still managed to set the smoke alarm off. Both Anna and Chuck had then been beside themselves with laughed, as everyone else in the house had started yelling for them to 'turn the dam thing off' - no one in the Novak family had feared that there was a fire, being already used to the smoke alarm detecting nothing more than burnt cooking.
