("The reason we struggle with insecurity is because we compare our behind-the-scenes with everyone else's highlight reel." -Steven Furtick)
It's 4:30pm by the time I have finished my Maths assignment. All the equations were successful in distracting me from my life for some time.
A knock on the door distracts me from the book I was reading. I get up to open the door but regret it as soon as I see the person standing at the doorway. Blonde hair, blue eyes looking at me, a plain white t-shirt with a pair of deep blue jeans and busted knuckles nervously slid into pockets. I don't say anything. I cannot tell if the knuckles are injured because of his fight with Louis or because he fought with someone new. Instead of asking him any questions, I just raise my eye brows giving him the what do you want look. "Can I come in?" He casually says as if nothing happened just a couple of hours ago. That reminds me that I need to call Louis to check on him.
"No?" I say surprising him. I stand at the doorway and block his way by spreading my arm across.
"I don't like hearing No's from people." Niall's eyebrows scoot together into a frown.
He pushes past me and enters the room. "Get out before I call security. Sophie is not here." I warn him.
"Go ahead and do it. I dare you." He plops down on Sophie's bed. I hate it when people listen and answer to only half of my sentence.
"Just get out." I repeat, clenching on my teeth. My fists tighten and my finger nails dig into the skin of my palm. Niall is impossible to stand.
"I won't. Come to the fair with me." He shrugs as he turns on the TV in the room.
I let out a laugh of amusement. "You're not serious. You push my friend down on the ground and beat the shit out of him and then you push me to the ground and you come to my dorm room a couple of hours later and ask me to go out somewhere with a violent person like you? What are you? A brainless human being?" My words come out rude just as I wanted them to sound.
Niall darts his eyes away from the screen and focuses on me. He takes a few seconds to process my words before speaking up. "Yes I am brainless. Now come with me before I smash your little innocent friend's head on the ground again tomorrow." Niall seems completely unaffected by my rude compliment. He only knows how to rule people. He is forgetting that I am not one of his damn puppets.
"Are you threatening me?" I cross my arms over my chest, rather angrily.
"Maybe." A sly smile spreads across Niall's lips. My words of anger seem to amuse him. His stare stays on the screen but I can tell he is not at all interested in the episode of How I Met Your Mother. He is just trying to act tough before me. "I can drive to his house now and kill him there if you want." Niall says playing with his car keys.
"I dare you." I know he won't do it. However, he gets on his feet and pins me on the wall beside the door. His touch on my already damaged wrist burns my skin. His grip is tight and full of anger and hatred. I feel Niall's breath getting heavier on my skin by the passing second.
"I said, come with me." Now that I am seeing Niall from this close, I notice the redness in his eyes and I know for a fact he has been drinking again. His mint chewing gum couldn't get the smell of alcohol away from his breath.
"Niall, you might not care about yourself and I am pretty sure nobody else does but I do care about myself!" I yell and lie. His touch is killing me. I feel like my wrists are bleeding. The pained look in his eyes in unreadable.
His eyes soften at my words as his eye brows fall down from its risen position. He lets go of me and attempts to open the door. "Move out of my way-"
